Currently, to date, there is no better flight sim.

When I purchase a flight simulator for my PC, I want it to teach me all there is to know, in the civilian world, about modern military combat. Some people only want to jump in the pit and go blow stuff up. If that is your interest, then the learning curve in F4AF is way to much for you. People complain that the 700+ page manual is just too much to learn. I have yet to see anyone jump in an F-16 and dogfight without years of training. I have been flying F4 sims for about 4 yrs and I am still learning. There are a lot of games that can be finished in a couple of months or less. That will never happen with F4AF. Take the time to learn about the F-16 Falcon. Read slowly and practice, and you will not be disappointed. Once you learn to rampstart the Falcon, take off, complete a successful mission, or even just a dogfight, get your jet back on the ground safely, and shut it down successfully, you will be hooked for life. That is when you really start spending money. You will have to get the Thrustmaster Cougar Hotas and a set of rudder pedals after you get hooked, because you will want to be as realistic as possible from your computer desk. All other games will be pushed aside and F4AF will be the only one. You will know the F-16 Falcon and all its artillery inside and out. I was at an airshow last year talking to an F-16 pilot. I opened my mouth and told him that, after years with F4AF, I could probably start this jet up right here. Well, he told me to prove it, without physically flipping any switches. I pointed out every switch to flip and knob to turn like if it were my own jet. He told me," yep, that's just about all it takes." The point is, yes it takes a long time to learn this sim, but the knowledge you will have afterwards will be wonderful. In todays world, we want everything as fast as possible with taking the time to study anything. This is why amateur simmers like LOMAC. Just jump in the jet and fly, with nothing real to learn. Almost every switch in the Falcon pit on F4AF is movable with the click of your mouse. You will know what the function of every switch is. Give F4AF the time it deserves and you won't regret it.

Very accurate but very hard to learn how to play it

Lead Pursuit pretends it's the best combat flight simulator ever made what I completely agree; very accurate (as long as I can imagine it is in real life).

There are two main parts in this game : 1- What are the components of the F16 and how to use them, 2- The campaign and all the strikes that the F16 might have to proceed during a war. 50% of the game is how to pilot the F16 and the other 50% is how to use the F16 in a war. You have a real feeling what might be a war playing this game.

However, this game is very hard to learn. First you HAVE to go through the manual (at least 600 of the 716 pages) if you want to BEGIN to know about piloting the F16. Then, it's not the end because you have now to learn how to use the F16 in a campaign and again you'll find very hard to understand because the informations about specific strikes in campaigns are not well explained. So you have to strike, then try to understand what went wrong, go back to the manual, read again and again, what you already read at first (remember the 716 pages), and search newsgroup to find answers to questions that can’t be answered.

Finally, I pretend that this game is for a combat flight simulator enthusiast who will have A LOT OF HOURS to spend playing it. I don’t recommand to buy it if you don’t have a lot of time in front of you, unless you are interested to spend a few bucks to learn a little bit about the F16.

This game is very addictive even if it’s very hard to learn to play!
