Fabric Savvy by Sandra Betzina (1999, Hardcover, Spiral)

I bought this book to be able to access information about different kinds of fabric.This is an extremely comprehensive compilation of facts on every kind of fabric.
e.g. its characteristics, what it suitable for, whether to preshrink and how to do it, how to lay out your pattern on the particular fabric, how to mark the fabric, how to cut it, how best/or whether to interface it, type and size of needle to sew with, kind of thread to use, kind of seam finish that is best to use, how to press, whether to topstitch or not, kind of closures to use and how to hem.

I had been looking for a book that had all the information this one does. I am just thrilled with it. It tells what needle to use, how many stitches per inch,
on what fabric. What kind of interfacing, if using a serger, 3, 4, threads again stitch length. What to use on silk, corduroy, felted wool.
I just love it. Packed full of good information.

This book is an excellent reference book for all who sews. You need to have a copy in your sewing library.

I already had the second book by sandra betzina and was excited to see the first for sale on ebay! I own my own little business and use this type of resource constantly!

Book is easy to read, gives tips for different fabrics, the best: feet, interfacing, thread, needles to use, as well as sewing hints, finishing, hemming, closure tips, as well as help for cutting & pre-treating fabrics. I love that each page gives so much easy to read info without a lot of wording to sift through. A great reference book!!!! I've sewn for years and learned a few of the tips given the hard way. this makes new and intimidating fabrics to try to sew without fear of messing up!! This was recommended by an experienced sewing instructor who admitted she uses it for reference to fabric not used on a regular basis.
