FIFA Soccer 09 (Xbox 360, 2008)

So, for those of you who played FIFA 08, you noticed that the AI still needed some work, and sometimes when you pass the ball to player who is facing their back on you...the ball would just bounce back. EA games has fixed over 200 improvements into the game, and one of them being receiving the ball regardless how your player is positioned. What I also noticed in 09 is that sometimes the strikers will use the outside of the boot to take a shot, which I believe it has been never used as a animation in the previous versions. The cool thing about 09 is after scoring a goal, you can control your player's movement and celebration inside the pitch. Another cool feature is the 10vs10 be a pro mode for XBOX LIVE. Everyone has a player to control except the goal keeper... from defenders to wingers to strikers! EA also put in a "power bar indicator" when you do a normal pass. In the previous version, the longer you hold the pass button, the further it went... but without displaying any power bar. I also noticed the animations of players are more realistic when they get tackled, when going for a ball in the air, or when the goal keeper let's the ball go wide. When a striker is through your defense and you slide tackle the striker and prevent him from scoring, you automatically get a red card... I don't recall this happening in the previous versions. The game also has referee and linesmen who actually does the right animation for throw ins, corner kicks, and off sides. For me, the through pass got a lot easier from the previous version... except you have to holder longer because the pass is actually weaker in 09.

Those are some of the features added to 09... I do believe this is by far the best FIFA game out there. The graphics are amazing, and the whole animation is like watching real football :P

What could EA have done better:

-When a player is sent off, I wish you can see the player go to the dug out and perhaps starting arguments with the fourth official or knocking down the water jug! I don't know some more realistic animations.
-During manager mode, have a forecast change instead of always being a good weather... maybe add rain? snow?
-Just like 08, EA didn't add the assist statistics for your club players. I still believe it's important to know who are the players with most assists :p
-I can be blind but I don't see no chemistry information during manager mode.
-I can't change the captain during manager mode... again I can be just stupid :p

I have been a fan of Konami PES games since like 99 or so back then it was known as winning eleven to most soccer gaming fans all over the world. I used to also purchase fifa and they did make some succesful attempts like fifa 99 and the most of world cup games. Honestly, ever since like 2004 i had given up on fifa. The intelligence was not there, players weren't moving while u are attacking and it was way too easy to score goals for me. This year, I read many reviews about the new Fifa and I said to myself, PES is the way to go and i went out and purchased PES again. Pes was fun at first but the glitches and the lack of leagues and online options started to bore me soooooo I GOT the new FIFA YESTERDAY!

WHAT A GAME!

1. The Graphics are beyond real. No glitches, no skips!
2. The game has everything that PES has. This includes being able to run around freely, pass however u like and shoot the ball precisely to a direction that u desire.
3. Its hard to score when u are face to face with the goalkeeper, whereas in PES the goalie just stands there and looks at u when u are trying to score a goal against him.
4.Many online and cup options
5. So many different leagues and real player names as well as a great commentary!
6.The buttons are the same as PES!! Makes it easier to get adjusted to the game


I can honestly say that Fifa is PES plus a lot more. For the first time in 10 years I am selling my PES before my Fifa.. There is no reason for any PES fan to not like this game. The buttons are the same, the graphics better, squad names are newer( Berbatov is in MANU), price is the same as PES, you can update player names and skills. EVERYTHING is much better.

I would highly recommend this game to any soccer fan. It is worth the money.

Great game. Sweet game play. I like that it's more realistic than past FIFAs. Even so, I have always been and will always be a big FIFA Soccer fan!

If you like fifa games this is a must!!! great physics and the new be a pro lets you play 4 seasons with a charecter to make the national team! it is fun but i wish they would have let you play through as many seasons as you want like you can in manager mode. This is a great buy and allows for fluid and exciting game play.

Good game, includes a code for any league in season updates. cool game it's similar to past fifa games, i think this one edges PES 2009 this time. In the past i've preferred pes, not this time.

This game is very fun to play if you like soccer, but it is a little more difficult than FIFA08 because of the way in which they changed the controls for taking free kicks, defending and scoring a goal.However, with a little bit of practice anyone should be able to become pretty good at playing this game.

The game has a lot of bugs that i hope the updates can fix them. It's an excellent game, much better than Fifa 08.
The on-line stadistics aren't very good, in 08 are better, but 09 it's more enjoyable.

Compared to FIFA 08 the game play is much better. The players move in a fluid movement making runs off the ball, and also calling for the ball which provides better options when attacking the oppositions goal. As you may have experienced the players move some what slow. Not on '09 much faster game play and pace. Along with speed you have greater movement an options for passing. '08 the attacks were predictable and untactful. As far as customizability goes, you have a number of different options for setting up the way your team attack, and defends. This option I found extremely helpful. Oh and don't worry about team chemistry it won't affect the performance of your team. I can say that this game has a lot of improvements. Go ahead and buy the game. You won't be disappointed :)

I really like the game!! Great graphics, fun fun fun!!! A must have for any soccer fan! I like the game quality and I think that the music for the game is superb. The online mode is quality and so is the multiplayer mode. I don't think any other soccer game can beat this one and it make me want to get FIFA 2010. Once again EA Sports brings together another classic game for soccer fans. Not to mention I got the game at a steal wich was also good!!

My last FIFA was FIFA 07, but I have played FIFA 08, and this game blows both of these games out of the water. The graphics are great, character creation is easier, and Be A Pro season is awesome. The play is faster than other FIFAs I've played but it's more fluid. The only complaint I can think of is the menus are small and make it hard to manage your team. 9.5/10
