Eyewitness to the Civil War by Steve Hyslop (2006, Hardcover)

This wonderful book contains hundreds of photos, illustrations and eyewitness accounts to the civil war highlighting both sides of the conflict. I first purchased a copy for my son's birthday; he enjoyed it so much we bought a second copy for his friends b.day. Makes an excellent coffee table book as well-its enjoyable to puruse through the photos and still be able to participate in conversations. An excellent read for ages 12 and up.

National Geographic's "Eyewitness to the Civil War" is a beautiful 400+ page, leather bound book with foil embossed page edges and a cloth page marker. It is filled with the nitty gritty of the Civil war from secession to reconstruction. It covers 11 major battles, is filled with tons of digitally re-mastered photographs, many of the original glass slides that the photos were taken on. It has hand drawn maps detailing each battle by a soldier and artist of the era. Sections called "Eyewitness" that showcases historic figures of the time such as Grant, Lincoln and Lee. Double page spreads of original arms and equiptment of the time as well as original uniform pieces. It is just a beautiful book and a must have either for the serious Civil War buff or any just starting on the journey to learing about our country's greatest and bloodiest conflict. The photos alone will take your breath away. I highly recommend this book.

Beautiful and interesting book..perfect gift for the Civil War enthusiast. I bought it as a gift for my son-in-law and now I will buy another for myself.

Book was extremely eye opening. Much was written that was disturbing. Pictures were honest if graphic. Extremely well bound in leather with gold edged pages of heavy weight paper and a silk bookmark attached. This book would be a valuable addition to any library and a must for one who collects Civil War.

I bought this for by father and he throughly loved it. It came in a timely manner but the book got a little ding in it from shipping.
