THINK YOU KNOW WHO DID IT? YOU'LL NEVER GUESS
Review created: 05/24/09

The Eyes... is a gem of America's Film History ~ Here you'll see Tommy Lee Jones at his best, youngest, and most attractive in the movie that launched his career. With his co-star, Faye Dunaway, they are so very natural together. Raul Julia plays the delicious villain, Renee Auberjonois the fabulously feminine, and many others... This is a story was written by John Carpenter.

Laura Mars' plot springs from Helmut Newton's 80's photography depicting sexually charged, high fashion, ultra stylized crime scenes. Do you believe that these exploit violence as 'chic'? Laura, is a high fashion photographer. Of all things, something is happening to her eyes: she 'witnesses' a series of bizarre murders. Is she psychic? Watch and see...

Great Stylistic Thriller with a Surprise Twist Ending
Review created: 08/15/08

This film has a great cast of: Faye Dunaway, Tommy Lee Jones, Brad Dourif, Raul Julia, Rene Auberjonois and Michael Tucker. The acting is good and the character development is well done. The story opens with the promotion of the main character's new book of photography and takes the viewer on a ride from there with several twists and turns until it leads you to the surprise ending; see if you can guess the killer. The main chacater is haunted by visions of murders and violence and then she re-creates them in her high fashion photography with beautiful models. She has some type of link to the killer that at times causes her to see through his eyes when he is about to committ a murder. Unfortunately for her, he is stalking and killing her friends and colleagues. She is tormented by what she has sees. Imagine viewing your own friends' murders through the eyes of the murderer. She has turned high fashion photography into classy photo spreads depicting violent scenes. There is some nudity. The cinematography is great (the photographs used in the film were taken by Helmut Newton and very good) and some of the music is right out of the 70's dico era; well it came out in 1978 what do you expect. You can see a lot of John Carpenter in the supernatural essence of the storyline, which is original and well told. The movie has a haunting, dark, erie mood. There is also a love story theme in it, a meeting of soulmates you might say. Overall it's good and I would recommend it to anyone who likes unique thriller murder mysteries of a graphic nature.

Eyes of Laura Mars..thrilling and suspensful...

Great movie! I love movies with a twist at the end. Tommy Lee Jones was very handsome as the overbearing detective. The soundtrack takes you back in time to the disco "Studio 54" days. Action packed from beginning to the shocking ending.

Half-naked models fighting over burning wrecked cars
Review created: 02/19/08(updated 02/19/08)

I saw this film when it was released in 1978. The film itself was good but not excellent and since suspense is not my genre, I wouldn't watch it repeatedly.

But the scene with the half-dressed models fighting over a burning car wreck to dance music keeps flashing through my mind for 30 years. It is worth having this DVD just for that scene.

Eyes Of Laura Mars - 70's Flick
Review created: 08/09/06

If you like Faye Dunaway, (which I do) you'll enjoy seeing her in this vintage suspense thriller with a TWIST that makes the whole movie worth while. Tommy Lee Jones is very young in this also, & you can appreciate his talent which is evident even in this type of film. You may not like this movie if you think that the story line is not your cup of tea. It has some slow moving segments & some scenes that are a little off color & seem some what corny perhaps because they were filmed so long ago without the theatrics & technology we have today. Those are the only drawbacks I saw & weren't totally pleased with, but keeping in mind that this was released in 1978, overall it is a good movie. Was an excellent movie for the times. I give it four stars. See it if you like the actors & appreciate old vintage movies. The plot TWIST makes it worth watching! And of course I bought it on ebay because they offer everything at the best price, delivered right to your door. Cheaper & more economical than renting! I will keep it in my collection.
