In the opening pages of this book, Mr. Dobbs claims to be a capitalist. Either he's lying or he doesn't understand capitalism. This book is filled with nothing but opinions meant to evoke emotion and hatred towards "evil corporate america." I looked in the back to find out where his sources came from and found nothing but sob stories from people who had been laid off, followed by a list of corporations who have outsourced jobs. Oh my!!!! My father was laid off from his job because the company found someone who would do his job for less. It was one of the best things that happened to us! He was provided with an opportunity to grow and expand his skills. Had he not been laid off, he probably would've been stuck in the same job for the rest of his career, and wouldn't have experienced such growth.
Dobbs also makes the argument against what is good for corporations is good for America. Let's take a moment to think about that. Why do corporations want to cut costs? Because we as a people DEMAND it. When we get lower costs, that results in us having a surplus of money. If we normally would've bought a shirt for $20.00, but the company outsourced and we can now get that same shirt for $10.00, we have saved $10.00. That $10.00 can now be spent elsewhere, and our standard of living improves.
I recommend reading the book, just so that you can understand the shallowness of the argument against outsourcing.
