The Exorcist (DVD, 1998, 25th Anniversary Special Edition)

Everyone has heard of The Exorcist. Linda Blair's head spinning around spewing pea soup is something everyone has seen - in this movie, a spoof, a clip etc.

But younger generations are wary of older horror films. The special effects are not as good as today, the casts are not models turned actresses and what was original back then has been remade and repackaged for the Dawson's Creek crowd.

Girl is possessed, priest performs exorcism. Simple? Well, this is also about faith lost and found, innocence, the eternal battle of good and evil...and pea soup, alright I could not help myself!
While this film may not appeal for casual horror watchers, this is a classic that should be watched by real fans. Both fans of horror and films in general.

The Exorcist : William Friedkin : 1973 : 5/5 : A girl becomes possessed by Satan and all his evil siblings. Still scary as hell.

This DVD which was brand new was filled with many extra's. 2-sided with bonuses about the film and cast. Great edition for devout Exorcist fans as I am. I would recommend this version for sure.

The reason I purchased this is because William Friedkin has begun working on the Blu-ray version of the film which is due out Fall 2009. The problem is that he is working from 'The Version You've Never Seen' print. As a purist, I think it's blasphemy (sorry) that he is probably not going to include both the original version and the unnecessary version with the additional 12 or so minutes of footage. I mean, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The original version was leaner, meaner and overall an almost perfect film. Since this DVD version is now out of print, I had to pick it up just in case Friedkin screws the pooch on the hi def version, which he most likely will.

Im a huge Exorcist fanatic, so much that this is my all time favorite horror film. It has the distinction of being the very first film i ever saw in my life as a child and it continues to haunt me to this very day. The themes of evil, fate, the love of God, the corruption of the innocent and those who surround that innocence, and redemption, all resonate like no other film of its type, before or since. Powerful, thought provoking material. A must for any film lover.

The Exorcist is without a doubt the best horror film ever made,as well as one of the best film's of any genre.The pacing is perfect, the director slowly builds the tension,giving glmpses of the true nature of evil.Then climaxes in an all out assault on your senses.Great acting,great direction,and a great script.
This is the 25th anniversery edition DVD of the original film. I like this version better than the more recent release called the The version you've never seen, which has deleted scenes put back into the movie,and the director added more subliminal,or very quick shots of the demon face into certain scenes.To me this was distracting and added nothing to the horror.
If you have not seen this film, or it has been awhile since you last saw it do yourself a favor and pick it up.

I was very thankful to have found this movie at such a low price. Item arrived as described in appropriate timing.

Scarriest movie even til today. The scenes, the make-up and acting is all to real. Movie is about a young girl being posessed by the devil. Chillin!
