I loved playing Excitebike on the NES. I still have it AND still play it. I just got Excitebike 64 today, and let me tell you I love it! You get the original Excitebike game and much much more. Play a Season, Single Race, race on Custom Tracks, Ride Uphill.. this game is packed with Excitebike fun. It's hard for me to put it down long enough to write this review! Gotta go!

Excitebike64 is an experience beyond anything you know today and for an old game that is good. If you miss something that you haded before eBay is the way to go.

  No Excitebike NES, but pretty cool

Other than having a track builder, it bears no resemblance to the clasic in anyway. But it is still a lot of fun once you get a feel for it. One of the better 64 games.

If you've been playing videogames as long as I have, you should have no problem remembering back to the days of the Nintendo Entertainment System and, more specifically, to a little classic called Excitebike. The 2D side-scrolling racer, while simplistic in design, was one of the very best games the system had to offer thanks to clever and addictive gameplay mechanics that did their best to mimic reality despite the limits of the technology. It looked great for the time, felt great for the time, and was a whole lot of fun.

Now Nintendo has contracted developer Left Field Studios (Kobe Bryant's NBA Courtside) to create the 64-bit update to the Excitebike franchise. The California based software house has not only perfectly recaptured the spirit of the classic for this jaw-dropping N64 adaptation, but upraised a fantastic 3D engine around it, and doused everything with buckets of wonderful new extras too. Extras like a superb physics engine, unequaled graphics, deliciously deep control, a tempting four-player mode, dead-on audio and enough courses and bonuses to keep gamers racing happy for a long time to come. All of this comes together for what IGN64 feels is the best Nintendo 64 racing experience to be had thus far, rivaling Nintendo's own Wave Race 64.

Features

* Track editor enables players to build courses from scratch with plenty of jumps, tabletops and dips.
* 20 tracks with six stadium, stunt tracks, and six outdoor rally tracks.
* Realistic physics engine.
* Authentic rider animations for crashes, jumps and knocks.
* More than a dozen outrageous tricks.
* Several types of motorbikes.
* Adjustable camera angles for capturing the best racing and stunt action.
* Four-player simultaneous support.
* 4MB Expansion Pak compatible for optional high-resolution mode.
* Licenses include Bell Helmets, Thor, Scott USA, Shoei, and FMF.
* Classic Excitebike included.

Excitebike is one of Nintendo's classic franchises so developer Left Field Studios had a lot to live up to when creating this 64-bit sequel. The good news is that it only takes 10 minutes with this game to know that the team at Left Field has done its homework. Excitebike 64 not only lives up to the classic it was inspired by, it takes it all to the next level with a fantastic 3D engine, delightfully realistic physics, intuitive control, brilliantly detailed graphics, ingenious subtleties and tons of options. An excellent selection of varied tracks will keep the single-player mode going strong and multiplayer nuts will go wild over the Up Hill Climb, Soccer, and Stunt Track modes. This game has it all.

Simply put, Excitebike 64 and Wave Race are the best racing games available for Nintendo 64. If Left Field can pull this off for Nintendo 64, I can't wait to see what it has in store for Dolphin! Snap this one up right now.

9.7 ( 1 of the Top 10 Games for the N64 )

This is a great game. The racing action is so exciting. It keeps you on the edge of your seat. My friends and would play this game for hours. The close race at the finish line would send us jumping out of our seats. Everyone should own this one. You will not be disapointed.

  Best racer for N64...so fun.

Pros:
Fast. Fun. Awesome multiplayer. Lost to unlock

Cons:
None, that I know of. Dated, sometimes slow?

*Excitebike 64*- Some of you will probably will remember the NES classic Excitebike well, 2 generations later (SNES, N64) Left Field delivers the sequel and had a lot to live up to. A lot of people didn t even know the sequel was ever released and when it was, they ask how was it? And this is what I tell them; let s see how it turned out. *Gameplay*- The game is fun and fast and there are many modes to check out and unlock. There are about 6 different racers, all having their equal advantages and disadvantages. First, you might want to check out the Tutorial if you want to find out how to...

  Insomnia inducer!!

by: rumbuddyboo -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Too fun to put down.

Cons:
None worth mentioning.

About 12 or 13 years ago, when I was 14 or 15 years old, I remember being completely addicted to the original NES Excitebike. There were many weekends spent sitting up until 3 or 4 in the morning creating tracks and trying to beat my friends high scores. Now I'm 27 years old and Excitebike 64 has once again stricken me with insomnia, I sat in front of the T.V. until 4 a.m. this morning, prying my attention from this killer update of the classic only when absolutely necessary - to refill my soda (gotta have the caffeine), or to change and feed my 8 month old daughter, Kaylee (Daduh luvs u baby.

Pros:
great to play, good graphics, doesn't get boring, and more

Cons:
none

I remember back when I was four or so, my dad bought a NES and a bunch of games he found for sale at a store that was going out of business. He got some classics that I still love today: Tetris; Punchout; Metroid; the almighty Super Mario Bros. (still one of the best games ever, especially the GBC DX edition). And among all those big names, was one smaller game that I had never heard of: Excitebike. Intrigued, I popped this little gem into the machine before all others (all of which I had played at least once at a friend's house). I was hooked. Three hours later, I realized I hadn't touched...

by: alan523 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Graphics

Cons:
Seems like you're going slow

I was a little afraid when I turned this game on for the first time. It reminded me a lot of Wave Race 64. After playing it a while I figured out that it was a lot better than Wave Race though. The graphics in this game are great. They are some of the best graphics that I've ever seen. The one problem is it doesn't look like you are going as fast as you are. You can be going over 40 miles an hour and it looks like you're hardly moving. There are twenty tracks in the game. It starts you out with five tracks to race on. You do a season to work your way up to more tracks. I have found that all...

  2-Wheeled Excitement
Review created: 06/05/00
by: DumlaoX -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
great graphics, great framerate, original Excitebike included, many modes of play

Cons:
No real motorcross drivers, announcer gets repetitive

In the Nintendo library, there are many games that are screaming for an update or a sequel. Mario, Zelda, and Donkey Kong have always gotten it but other classics such as Kid Icarus and Metroid have been left out in the cold. Thankfully, Excitebike has recieved an update with a jump from the 8-bit game to the 64-bit game. Motorcross racing has never looked so good. Graphics - Every system needs a game that can wow people and be a good representative of the power it has inside. Excitebike 64 delivers here. First off, it has a solid framerate that never slows down or is inconsistent. The game...
