Out of the six James Rollins I've read to date, this is by far my favorite.
Unlike some of his later works, this novels characters are well-formed, interesting and believable. Their relationships work and provide excellent sub-plot fodder that helps enhances the story line.
The story line and sub-plots are brilliant and well thought-out. The perfect blend of mystery, action adventure, paranormal and science fiction.
The clues to the mystery are not dumbed-down and blatant as in some of his more recent "Hollywood style" novels. I was actually guessing up to the very end.
If you want to start reading James Rollins, start with his earlier books and move through them chronologically. He has a phenomenal talent and I will be reading and reviewing all of his books in the future.
