"Evita" is a musical portrayal of the amazing life of former Argentine First Lady Eva Perón (Madonna). Madonna, with all of her talent, good looks, and energy, is perfect for this rendition of "Evita" since it is presented almost entirely as a musical; with the exception that it is narrated by Antonio Banderas.
The film chronicals both the beloved and rejected Evita's rise from poverty to become a radio and film star, and then First Lady of Argentina. It also gives us a glimpse of her relationship with President Juan Perón (Jonathan Pryce). How the Argentinian people grieved for her when she died from cancer at age 33.
The music took an Oscar for the winning theme song, "You Must Love Me." Director Parker adapts composer Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical for the big screen magnificently. Don't think that it isn't political.
