Everything is Illuminated, Foer

I decided to buy it because my girlfriend was reading it and I thought, "this book looks pretty good and it'll look pretty good if I read it." I was impressed with the book but, it may have been a little over my head but, I'm tenacious and if I want to look for symbolism and over my headish stuff I can talk to her or go to Spark Notes or something right? The reason it's a little bit difficult is that the book is constantly referencing itself and to a lesser extent Jewish Culture (Holocaust and sexual references make this book a difficult to stomach at times, it made me cry in a good way, but, it's not for 8 year olds). There are tons of layers of meaning, I'm not calling you stupid but, don't expect to catch everything. Overall the writing style is enticing to me with a broken language of a broken man trying to write a story in English with the consultation of an American buddy who goes one a hell of a journey with him that they're both writing about.
