Everest
"Everest" is a beautiful coffee-table style book that delves into the phenomena of why the highest mountain on earth seems to capture the imagination of so many people, despite the very real dangers which surround it. Those who like grand nature stories, along with those who have had the opportunity to see the IMAX film on Mount Everest will enjoy this book, since it was done in tandem with the film. Included is a good deal of material on the terrible tragedy which claimed the lives of eight climbers in May of 1996; the IMAX team themselves were filming on Everest at that time, and they set aside their work in order to pitch in with rescue attempts. All in all, this is a book filled with great pictures and great stories! For those of us unable to actually enter the world of mountain climbing, this book is a interesting way to see what that world is all about.
