Eureka 4870 Upright Cleaner

I bought this vacuum about a year ago, when my hoover decided not to work anymore. I did alot of research before buying this one. The hoover wasn't old and we had so many problems that I didn't want that to happen again. I was seriously considering the Dyson. Kept seeing the commercials and people saying how great it was. But the Dyson was expensive and I was seeing some pretty regular bad reviews for it. One review said that "the boss" was a cheaper vac that worked just as well as the Dyson. I started reviewing it and it was getting good reviews. Plus is was significantly cheaper. I took a chance and bought it.

I am so glad I took the risk. I love this vacuum!! It works so well, picks up everything and makes the carpet look like new. It is not too heavy, but has really good suction. And yet I'm not constantly replacing bags either.

The negatives that I have found are these:
On the back where you wind up the cord, the holder is loose and folds down and drops the cord and I have to rewind it back up. The lever to push down to start is a little sticky and hard to push down. The attachments aren't great, but do work.

So far, I really like this vacuum, for the price it works really well, and my husband will even use it, (says he likes the way it makes the carpet look, after your done). Hopefully it lasts longer than the very expensive Hoover I had, it definately cleans better than the Hoover did!!!

When using foot petal to release handle from upright position be careful to tap only the outside left edge of the pedal to avoid breaking it over time. Also, when changing the belt do so only with the handle in the outstretched(all the way down)position to avoid stretching the belt. Finally,don't forget to change the HEPA filter when it gets dirty to avoid burning up the motor. ($89.00 repair)

Just got this two days ago and used it for the first time yesterday. Assembly was quick and straightforward, and it came w/one bag already installed and an extra for future use, as well as an extra belt. Really like the cleaning capability, and the weight is very manageable. I have carpet all over and don't plan to use it on either my kitchen or bathroom floors, so I can't speak to that aspect of usage. I wanted a bagged vacuum because I've purchased the bagless types (2) before, and they never lasted more than a year. We'll see how this one goes, but so far, so good!

My Hoover Windtunnel (Sapphire) that I had for year went kaput, so after a lot of looking around, deliberation, and a visit to Consumer Reports, I decided on the Boss. I LOVE this vacuum! It is very quiet (compared to the Windtunnel anyway...and it doesn't scare my pets or daugter near as much), the hose is awesome (the vacuum doesn't fall down when you stretch the hose while cleaning) and it's clear, so you can see if anything is stuck in there.

I had been without a descent vacuum for several months and I filled my first vacuum bag pretty quickly, but it just went to show how much stuff this thing was picking up. I have 3 dogs (they don't shed a lot, but they do shed) and I am very happy with the cleaning power of the Boss. I also love that the roll brush is off when using the hose attachment.

I wouldn't mind having the version that has a "dirt finder" light, but it isn't necessary. To vacuum well, you should take your time anyway. I had to replace the belt on my Windtunnel at least 4 times in a year, so I am looking forward to NOT having to do that with the Boss. I also am very happy with the ease of replacing the bag on the Boss. Even my husband figured it out on his own!!!

So right now, I am very, very pleased with this vacuum, Consumer Reports was right to choose this model as a good purchase!

Vacume cleaner vacumes very good. I do not like the way it automatically propels forward, making it hard to pull backwards when vacuuming, and makes vacuuming a lot harder work than it needs to be. I purchased this vacume because it was rated #1 by Consumers. I would not have purchased it had I tried id first.

WHY? THE PRICE!!!HUNDREDS LESS THAN OTHER VACUUMS THAT ONLY DELIVER A "LICK & A PROMISE!". FOR A HUNDRED BUCKS, THIS IS "THE BOSS". IT VACUUMS "CIRCLES" AROUND OUR KIRBY! THE BARE FLOOR PART IS GREAT! SWITCH OVER TO USE THE WAND AND IT IS EASY TO DO AND VACUUMS GREAT. MY WIFE LOVES THE WAY IT DEEP CLEANS. SO FAR, WE HAVEN'T FOUND A DISLIKE.

This is a great vacuum! Rated as one of the best by Consumer Reports.
I got one of these 3 years ago, it was $130 at that time and its worth every penny of it. Just keep replacing filters and it works great. Very good suction, the BEST vacuum in this price range. If you are willing to spend $300 to $700 more, than you should find a better one, maybe. But on this one, even plastic parts are ok. I have young kids, so it takes a pretty good beating and it's still in one piece after 3 years. If I needed another one, I'd be all over this one.

After researching various vacuums that work for pet hair - a priority in my house - I had about decided on this one. What clinched the decision to buy was when I read the review in Consumer Reports which confirmed my research. It works very well on the carpets AND the furniture. Pet hair disappears!!! and to me, that is awesome...Plus, it lifts the dried mud which the pets tracked in. I am very pleased with this vacuum.

After vacuuming, the carpet looks like it has been professionally cleaned. It has an amazing amount of suction from the 12 amp motor. I read reviews on this unit early so I did more research before I purchased it and am not sorry.
The drawback is the weight and the tools do not always stay in their storage area on the backside of the vacuum cleaner. BUT it does a super job cleaning the carpet and that was the reason I bought it.

Man this was a good vacuum after i personally fixed the up & down adjustment bar myself.....warning this is a strong suction vacuum and left running in one place will eat your carpet up.....

This was a highly rated choice by Consumer Reports. I've had mostly positive results using their ratings, but a few really bad calls including terrible results with a 'top-rated' Whirlpool dishwasher have created a skeptical climate. This replaced a Panasonic that had been a Consumer Reports high pick, but the brush was worn out and no longer available. That's a good thing in this case, because this new vacuum is so much better.

This machine is a very good value for the money. It is very powerful, fairly quiet, and easy to use. Adjustment for carpet height is easy and quick. The brush is automatically disengaged with the handle locked up. Bag replacement is easy and fairly clean. It looks sorta funny, like a junior high school kid's car, but works quite well. The onboard stretchy hose is the only real concern. In use, care must be used to prevent bending it at the connection to the attachment. It looks likely that it will kink or break off if not used cautiously.

I bought this sweeper because of good ratings from consumer magazines. It does an excellent job of sweeping and has good suction. Problem is, that the pedal you push to release the unit to angle back for sweeping is VERY hard to push. Mine broke the first time of use.

I went to www.ConsumerSearch.com before making my purchase to find out what was recommended as the best vacuum out there. Consumer search is great because it averages out JD Power, Consumer Reports and actual customer opinions and its free! Anyway, we had previously been using an Oreck and another brand and while they were loud and seemed to be working they simply weren't. both of my other vacuums had a very rough time with frieze carpeting. The new Eureka is powerful enough to pull itself along as well as pull all the dirt, cat hair, etc out of the carpet. We've only vacuumed 4-5 times and we are nearly half way through the second bag. The old ones were only surface vacuuming and not going deep down. I will expect lest dust, less, dander, and less sneezing in the future. An added plus is that I saved at least $30 total on eBay!

WE had a Kenmore canister for about four years. The powermate was made cheaply. The design was not there. This Smart Vac is made better and easier to handle. Bought reconditioned product with full factory warranty. Vac works great. What most people don't know is when a product is new it is only 1 out of 10 or 20 that is pulled from the line to be tested by quality control where as a refurb one is always tested after fix. Great product and works well. Very happy J T

Excellent suction power. Simple to use. A little heavy so may not be the best fit for a small/elderly female. Overall a good value!

Excellent price and value. I like the HEPA filter and the wide track. I like the long cord and all the accessories. Keep up the good work Eureka.

I was looking for a second vacuum and seen on consumer reports this was rated well so I searched E-bay and it was a great price so I bought the vacuum...Thanks alot..It came fast and was as good or better then expected..

the vacuum performs well. some of the attachments don't work as well as I thought they would. the hose will pull the whole vacuum over if you are not careful.

I like the suction. It does not loose power when picking up dirt. I like how you switch to either floor use or hose attachment by turning a dial high up on the vacuum so there is not bending. This vacuum comes with a good amount of attachments which are very handy. The small crevace tool is even able to clean the smallest/hard to reach areas in my car. I sucked up a paper clip that was open not knowing it, the vacuum made weird noises when I pulled it back. I turned over the vacumm & easily removed the paper clip. It is a bit loud but hey it works well.
I bought it for the price it was only $5.00 and I picked it up locally and I needed a vacuum.

The selling firm is one I will do business with again. The product arrived in good condition and timely. The Eureka 4870 is an outstanding machine. Cleans very well.

Purchased a refurbished model and am very satisfied with its performance.Relatively quiet,long cord,easily manageable,excellent suction and fairly priced. Thumbs up to Consumers Report for its rating!

I talked to the gentlemen on the phone about this vaccum sweeper. He said I would be very happy with it. Indeed I am. Very powerful and picks up everything including my cat's hair. Would buy again. Thank You, Diane Osterberg
