This is a real treat. A love story like no other. Jim finds out that Kate, whom he just broke up with, had a strange new procedure done to have all memory of Jim removed from her mind. In retaliation, Jim does the same, yet midway into the procedure he realizes something is amiss, and he changes his mind about forgetting Kate. So he frantically runs from memory to memory trying to hang on to “Clementine”. This is a sweet, funny, and unique tale.

There are few reason why I said Excellent is that this director tried to explain what is the love. Can't erase it, Can't be away from it, many many things. director described love really well in this movie. If you watch this movie with your love, it will be real nice. Highly recommand!!!

The film tells the story of Joel (Jim Carrey) and Clementine (Kate Winslet), two people who casually met, fell in love, and drifted apart. Some time after they've separated, Joel finds out that Clementine visited a local psychiatrist (Tom Wilkinson) and had her memory of their entire relationship erased. Anger, pseudo-revenge, and desperation push him to seek out the same doctor and have the procedure to erase his memories of her as well. Three technicians (Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, and Elijah Wood) visit Joel's apartment and work through the night to remove the memories of Clementine from an unconscious Joel's mind. The remaining bulk of the movie actually takes place in Joel's mind as he suddenly decides he doesn't want to forget Clementine. Unable to wake up, he struggles through literal incarnations of his subconscious realities, his dream worlds, and his memories to hide remnants of Clementine where the technicians can't find them.Sound complicated? While it becomes slightly difficult to follow as the movie pulses along, it steadily becomes clear what's happening inside of Joel's mind. Patience is required as the linear timeline of his memories eventually comes into focus (here's a hint -- keep your eye on Clementine's hair color to track the timeline of their relationship history). Those with a keen mind, an attention to detail, and the desire to unravel character arc mysteries are almost sure to fall in love with 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.'

This dvd was a strange and extemely weird role for Jim Carey. I neither seen anything funny or humorous. It was so far fetched that it didn't relate to anything that could be considered a plot because it was not realistic in any area. It made a mockery of emotionally breakups and that people cannot handle the reality of losing someone thru a break up. The only highlight I seen was the role that Kirsten Dunst played and the sexuality she displayed. This a movie I would not recommend.

This movie has some really deep themes and definetely takes a new and interesting angle of what love is. It's not over the top in romance and it's not over the top in humor either, it has a perfect and precise balance that just works throughout the entire movie. Funny, sad, provoking, and just all around an excellent peice of art. Jim Carry's most serious and dare I say, best work to date. Kate Winslet also does great. Must see for anyone.

Amazing cinematography featuring Jim Carrey in a rare, serious mood. Kate Winslett, as usual, is in top form. She mentions in Empire Magazine that her favorite performance is in this film.

The acting is spot-on, the script clever and well-written, and a convoluted plot will keep you riveted until the end.

Director Michael Gondry, amazingly, did not use digital special effects. Though there are many special effects, they were all done using old school editing and camera techniques.

An indie film not to be missed.

I bought this movie cause its cool and I saw it before I bought it. I got it on Ebay cause it was cheap! Its kinda an underground movie that a lot of people dont know about. Funny and entertaining!

This is one of my all-time favorite movies, just because it has so many strong messages, and it is about one of my favorite quotes of all time. The acting is spectacular and the idea is just beyond comprehension, its so artistic and fluid. I love every bit of this movie.

I bought this movie because i fell in love with it when a friend introdduced me to it and because its' really hard to find in stores in the area around me. It's an awesome movie that should be own so that you can feel free to watch it as many times as you'd like ^^ I also got it super quick and at a really good price so i was really happy

At first, Eternal Sunshine might seem like a myriad of other movies. Boy meets girl. Boy and girl fall in love. Girl saves boy from himself and they live happily ever after.

But wait. That's not how it goes! Our protoganist Joel does meet a girl, Clementine, who encapsulates everything he isn't. They do fall in love. Then things get strange thanks to a new method of non-invasive surgery that purges the memory of another person entirely from your brain. Is it worth it to eliminate painful memories if you must also eliminate your triumphs? This movie will give you new perspective on life.

Jim Carrey is fantastic, even Oscar-worthy in Eternal Sunshine. The character of Joel is far from perfect. He's a real human being with real flaws. He's pathetic, but he's passionately clawing for breath the whole way through. For a chance to experience life without regret or shame.

The plot is fresh and will keep you guessing from moment to moment. You'll get lost in the characters. Most importantly, you'll be regaled with an unconventional tale about the immense power of the human spirit. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind will move you.

I love this story....its the triumph of love but you might need to watch it twice to completely understand it and not miss out!

ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND is an unconventional romance told in the abstract, inventive, and comedic storytelling style of screenwriter Charlie Kaufman. Like his scripts for ADAPTATION and BEING JOHN MALKOVICH, this plot works off of a relatively complex idea that is more easily explained through the language of film than through words. In its most basic description, Joel (Jim Carrey) is undergoing a medical procedure to erase the memory of his ex-girlfriend, Clementine (Kate Winslet). However, while he is unconscious and the procedure is underway, he takes a journey through his mind, reliving moments with Clementine for fear of losing her forever. Using disjointed sound and action, foggy periods indicating Joel's confusion, and flashbacks to childhood where objects appear much bigger than they are to adult eyes, the cinematography communicates Joel's dilemma with visual hilarity. Only occasionally is the film laugh-out-loud funny; instead it is much more deeply and darkly amusing as the absurdity of the situation grows. ETERNAL SUNSHINE is nothing short of brilliant--a credit to director Michel Gondry (who has a topnotch reputation for his aesthetic music videos by artists such as Bjork). Carrey is wonderfully understated in the role of a simpleminded nice guy, and his signature goofiness is used only a handful of times. Winslet lights up the screen with her blue hair and orange sweatshirt, playing a lively free spirit and loose cannon. There are also strong supporting performances by Kirsten Dunst, Elijah Wood, and Mark Ruffalo, along with an excellent score by Jon Brion and a peppy soundtrack including songs by E.L.O. and the Polyphonic Spree. The film's conclusion promises to satisfy viewers; it offers a beautiful metaphor for the end of a love affair that brings perfect closure to this excellent film.

this movie is my all time favourite film! its so beautiful, and has such meaning! jim carrey does such a different roll in this movie. not a funny man, and hes GRAND as this roll! he has such a variety of talent! i highly suggest this film to anyone and everyone!
