Album Notes Additional personnel includes: Lady Kier, Jennifer Neal, Wendy Page, Louise Rhodes, David Simpson. Having relocated to New York from his native Manchester, England, a few years earlier, A Guy Called Gerald Simpson released ESSENCE in the year 2000. The album was departure in that it largely contained actual songs rather than club-based material, and Simpson enlisted the likes of Lady Kier from Dee-lite and Wendy Page. Throughout the record, the era's typical drum 'n' bass sound blends perfectly with languid, soulful vocals, which makes for a curious and moving juxtaposition.
