Escape From Monkey Island (PC Games, 2000)

Escape from Monkey Island continues in the hilarious tradition of its critically hailed and award-winning predecessors, The Secret of Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: Le Chuck's Revenge, and The Curse of Monkey Island. Developed by the team who created LucasArts's irreverent classic Sam and Max Hit the Road, Escape features an original cinematic story full of drama, intrigue, and of course, sidesplitting humor. The game is highlighted by hundreds of challenging puzzles, set amidst dozens of rich and brilliantly rendered backgrounds.

From the very beginning, it draws you into it's wacky world of pirates (living and undead), and it keeps you glued to the PC until you've unlocked all the mysteries to be found. It's not the hardest game to master, but in all honesty...you stick with it because it's always entertaining and different. I've since played the other MI games, and this is by far the best one....it has just the right mixture of sarcastic humor, and unique puzzle solving.

-Excellent voice acting and writing
-Very funny
-Challenging for players of all skill levels

Cons:

-The controls could be a little more streamlined

The 4th and final installment in the adventures of Guybrush Threepwood, mighty pirate. Its now 2008, and this came out in 2000 when my oldest child was 1. So, I've been quite busy with parenthood for 2 kids, not just one. Don't know what posessed me to now go after this one and the the 3rd, called 'Curse of Monkey Island', but myself and my 2 kids have had a blast with this one.
Its been something of a bond we are sharing, as we explore & proceed. I'm keeping the obsession in check, and its got plenty of laughs for all ages. My kids are 10 and 6, so there are some jokes which are totally over their heads, and you can't talk pirates w/o having some references to drinking, which are harmless. They've asked what Grog is, and honestly, I couldn't tell them, but I bet it tastes horrible.
The rating is T for Teens, but in my view, its like giving 'Finding Nemo' a PG-13 or R rating. This is a great adventure, that tracks like a Disney movie, and I mean this as the highest of compliments to the creators at LucasArts. Now, the degree of difficulty with some puzzles can be too tough for a 10 yr old, which is why my band of pirates strike out together. (I've been trying to find that fine line between getting them to think for themselves, and a melt-down from frustration. mostly success here, but I frequently give extremely good hints.)
So grab the kids, the family dog, wake your Grandma, and set your course for this little known Caribbean paradise.

As an adventure game - cute but Lucas's Grim Fandango is better. If you're considering older classic game - try that one!

i am not a kid and love this game...its cute and sometimes tricky! i have been playing each game in the series and hope they make another one! love it!!

The game is a necessary buy for any longtime fan of the Lucasarts adventure game. It has the references veteren Monkey islanders will enjoy. But for anyone just becoming aquainted with the genre, the complexities make gameplay too tedious to be fun.

It's fun to troubleshoot in this game but it can be hard to figure out which step is next. The graphics could be less cartoonish and more realistic too
