A great series that should be noticed

This series is one of greatest animes of all time, I'd say. First of all, the story about the world of Gaia begins by the coronation of Vaan Fanel of Fanelia after slaying the dragon to obtain the crystal to operate his Guymelef, the "Escaflowne." I won't go further to spoil the story but it's overall, an excellent series. The only thing I found odd is that the main character, Hitomi came from earth, which is called,"Mystic Moon" which is just a planet away from Gaia. Hitomi is an athlete in her team and one day, Vaan shows up and later she gets taken by some force that took them to Gaia...

Its a must have for any anime fan and a truely wonderful captivating love story that has an awesome story line wrapped around it, and a unquie ending, sad but wonderful ending. This is a must have, you wont go wrong getting this series, its worth every cent.

Whatever your anime preferences, your bound to love Escaflowne. A beautifully woven tale of a young girl who is transported to a strange land and the adventures that ensue. Each episode is full of excitement and begs to be marathoned. It's that gripping! Definately watch this series.

  Escaflowne-A Classic Disappointment

Paid $49.99
Escaflowne (E) tells the story of Hitomi, a Japanese school girl with psi powers, who gets transported to a world of Gaia when mets Van, a young king of a Gaian country.

Hi gets caught up in the struggles of Gaia through the usage of her psi powers which is a huge part of the plot. She can foretell the future and uses it to help her friends from danger. An evil empire wants to use her to...well you can pretty such guess.

This is the problem with E is the predictability of the plot. You don't need Hit to tell you what is going to be next in the plot. You can pretty much guess yourself and get it right. Though there was one good plot twist in the middle of the series, most are so far left-field that they are pretty much laughable.

Spoiler Alert-The main villian is Issac Newton! That's right, the guy who discovered gravity is the main villian of the story. You think they can come up with a better villian than that. I'm laughing my butt off after the first huh over thsi!

Without making the plot worse, they have plot holes. In a marketplace, Hit finds a CD. Since Gaia doesn't have the techological capacity to produce this item, Hit wonders if someone from Earth came here. Nothing is the story explains it properly and the writers expect you to believe -Spoiler Alert- that Newton made the disc and a huge highly-advance empire in Gaia. But how can Newton made a CD!? Even if he was the smart enough to do it, it was so far ahead of his time with the chemistry of how to makes plastic, lasers, mathematics, and computer programming that he would be more shock to know what a CD was than Hitomi. Instead of being a good plot device, it makes it more goofy than it is.

Character designs-- If you love Doonsbury with its long and square-end noses, you can get that will every character in the story. Instead of good looking, it makes the characters look ugly and makes you wonder how the people who make this story miss such a error like that (maybe they were driking sake at the time when they made this---a joke). Also the costumes of the characters are bad, especially the ones the royals wear. One self righteous princess will wear such than outageous outfit. Though I do admit that the dragon in the beginning of the first episode was neat looking with the computer design

Translation--European-Style City. European-Style Knight like Mechas. European-clothed knights. Let call them samuarai. Even through Japan produced this story, the feel of this anime doesn't give me a samurai feeling. They should have said knights.

Music is good and makes you feel pumping for action. It was of the shojo variety and proper to the story. The only good thing about the series.

Conclusion: E haves the problem of having a good reputation among fans, but on closer look it is flawed. I don't know if it is me or if the anime was old (1996). If you are otaku with lot of cash you might buy it. But for those with short cash supply, there are alot of other possiabilities for a buy than this.
I hope this review was good and it helped with your buying.

  Escaflowne the Series (Boxset)

I loved to watch this series as a kid with my sister and am glad I found it on here for a decent price. The disks were near flawless and played perfectly without skips. This anime is good with some surprising twists and turns in the end. If you like action this is also a good anime for you because it's got lots of sword-fighting and violence. It takes a little while to get started of course because it has to build-up/introduce the characters but overall its a great show.

Great Show for the whole family!

I love the serious, as with any anime/tv show it had its cheesy scenes, but it was a show that I enjoyed very much. I also have shown it to several other people and they all said that they loved the series and just wish it would have kept going. I also liked the fact that it was a child friendly show. No racy scenes or nudity, just fun fairy tale story line with alot of action!!!

  Escaflowne
Review created: 10/02/06
by:

Escaflowne tells the tale about Hitomi Kanzaki and Van Finel in a 26 epsiode series filled with quite a bit of mystery, intrigue, suspense, and always, (just like with quite a few cartoons I have watched) cuts off the episode at a point where you are literally on the edge of your seat as to "what's going to happen next?" That just makes you want to watch the next episode. After watching the entire series, It was very fast-paced, but was extremely well done. For anime collectors out there, this is one series that should definitely be considered to adding to your collection.
