Eragon (DVD, 2009, Widescreen; Dove O-Ring)

... as it is pretty derivative of other movies, including Dragonheart that was voiced by Sean Connery.

There was nothing outstanding about this movie, which is probably the first of a movie trilogy, to make me stand in line to see the second one.

The movie is based on a series of books, which I have not read.

Sometimes a movie comes out first and sticks in the public's mind and then another movie comes out, and the public thinks the second one copied. That could be said for Darth Vader of Star Wars, where those that knew Dr Doom in the Fantastic Four comics know that Dr Doom came first and then Darth Vader. Not the other way around!

Also the Incredibles movie came out first before the Fantastic Four, and some people were thinking the FF were copies of the Incredibles, when it was the other way around!

So maybe this Eragon story was earlier, but since it is late coming to the movies it just didn't open any new vistas for me.... seems like several movies, like Lord of The Rings, Dragonheart, etc mixed in for a fair storytelling.

I don't understand why all the bad press has been coming out about Eragon. Sure, I normally take the Hollywood critics with a grain of salt, but with all the poor reviews coming out, my sodium intake is way too high!

Given, Eragon is not high art. It won't make any great contribution to the discipline of film theory, but it is a solid sword and sorcery offering. I enjoyed it tremendously.

I think many people (or at the very least, a lot of young guys of my generation) will get a kick out of the premise: a seemingly insignificant young man finds a dragon egg that will launch him into a greater world of magic, wonder, and the fight against evil. And, really, who hasn't daydreamed about dragons as a child. Or if you're a nerd like me, I can rephrase the question: "Who doesn't daydream about dragons on a regular basis."

But seriously, this is a great film for the whole family. There is a small amount of what they call "fantasy violence" (which means only the bad non-human critters get killed on-screen), but nothing to the extent of, say, Braveheart. The themes are pretty simple, and everything conflict in the film is presented in convenient black and white dualisms, so you don't have to explain any morally ambiguous actions to the kids.

It's not a smart film, but adults will still enjoy the light humor, the fairly standard adventure story that you need not pay constant attention to, and the uplifting fantasy aspects (it didn't make me sob, like after Gandalf bit it in the Mines of Moria, anyway).

Most amazing of all is that a teenager wrote the book this was based on. True, he's no Fritz Lieber or Terry Pratchett, but I have to give credit to the kid - I know what I was up to when I was a teenager, and it certainly wasn't writing novels!

So, once again, I think the critics are off base. Maybe they need to relax and have a little fun with their movies, rather than overanalyzing them.

Eragon is the first movie in a trilogy based upon books that are for junior high students.

The movie follows a pretty standard plotline of the young hero that must go up against the overlord that is ruling the country through terror and force. The hero is given a dragon egg and learns about the way things were when the dragon riders used to be protectors of the realm. He learns this from a fallen dragon rider. (See how this is like Star Wars? Insert lightsaber for dragon)

The graphics and special effects are top notch and the story moves well. But I'll still only rent the second movie instead of going to the theatre to watch it.

I found the adventure was equally balanced with a good storyline and highly detailed with vivid special effects.Eragon's cast and characters portrayed were excellent.
A great film for the entire family. It lacked the vulgarity and violence that plagues many films.
I bought it based upon previews that I'd seen. Unfortunately,I (like many fellow Americans)never saw it on the big screen.It did not do well at the box office due in part to it's unfamiliarity, and flooding of other anticipated films.
Take my advise, see it,buy it, and add it to your video collection for generations of enjoyment.

well, how sad is this?
I felt sorry for the author of the book. I watched this movie before reading the book. Now that I am reading the book, I can almost understand what is happening in the movie. It has SO many gaps, and is a bit hard to follow. John Malkovich's character is, sigh, ridiculous. I guess he is supposed to be this big bad guy, but he sounds corny. I am certain if they were not so low budgeted, it could have turned out MUCH much better. Really a shame. I would rate it as a B-movie.
My 11 and 10 yr olds loved it, but for adults..., find a better flick to keep you entertained. This is a one timer for me.

I loved the movie, granted the book had more, but it told the story well. I read the book and seen the movie in part. So I purchased to see the full version. very happy I did.

This is a great movie and great for all ages. The plot will keep you on the edge of the seat. Mostly if you like medevil tails.

Overall this is a great movie. Its full of action and adventure and great scenary. The books are a bit better but that is only because your imagination can beat anything on the screen. A must have for any fantasy movie lover!

My son and I read the books and wanted to see the movie. It has great special effects and is interesting but it is NOTHING like the book. There is only so much that they can transfer to the screen from the very vivid and detailed original so I'm sorry to say I found it lacking. The characters relationships do not stay true to the book and the storyline is a very broad adaptation.

I love movies with magical creatures like dragons. This movie is in the same group as Spiderwick, The Water Horse, and also The Harry Potter Collection.

Was exactly how it was described...................which I liked. I liked the movie and wanted a copy for my movie collection.

I love the mystic story line. The animation and graphics is excellent. The movie has mild violence. The movie lets the viewer dream of actually flying on a dragon. For me I love watching the movie over and over again. I can't wait until the next sequal comes out. This is truly an excellent movie. I had to have it after seeing it on HBO.

This is a VERY GOOD movie. You can keep up with the story line. The anamation is great. Ya wind up wanting to adopt the dragon, and Eraton as well. I loved the battle's were GREAT. This is one movie you can see more then once, and always find a part you missed the first time around. LOVE IT>

Loved it...The Beautiful Dragon was my favorite...Her CG was wonderful...It follows the book story line pretty good but due to the medium must deviate for clarity a little...It is worth your time and sit and watch...The casting and acting is wonderful...I hope they make a sequel from "Elder" the next book in the series...

Good movie for kids. Excellent characters with great dialogue. My nieces loved it and thought the main character was "hot" Would definitely recommend this movie to anyone with kids.

This is a great product. This is truly the work of some gifted special effects technicians. This is becoming a very popular topic for hollywood as several movies in the last 5 years will prove. For me, this is fustrating because I like Dragons and I like good movies. This combination is difficult to find together at the same place and time. I felt the story line was good, the acting appropriate and the special effects excellent.

It was received in a timely manner and was just what I expected. Important that they shipped right away.
