Sticking to manufacturer's recommendation

Epson recommended I use only genuine Epson cartridges, and the fact that I always do may have been a factor when I had a problem with my printer and they fixed it free of charge even though it was out of warranty. The cartridges work fine and are easy to use & replace. However, they're not very efficient because they're set up to use a tiny bit of each color cartridge with every black & white document so that the nozzles don't dry up. This results in expensive printing -- I may end up getting 1-2 photos and 3-4 color documents out of the life of my color cartridges because they're being used up when I print my B&W pages (99% of my documents are B&W). Therefore eBay, where I can always find a good deal on them, is my solution. Also, to me it's worth the extra price of the genuine cartridges to not have to muck with needles & changing inks & all that.
