It does a great job of printing my photos, wonderful color. I wish there was more instruction on using the ICC printer profiles as well as information in the manual on printing black and white photos. There is a lot of tweaking to get rid of color casts but I understand that happens with most ink jet printers. Overall it is an excellent printer, gets good reviews and has proven itself over time. The printer has been around since about 2002 so if you can come across a new or slightly used 2200 and you need a good printer at a good price, get it!

  Epson photo 2200 printer

Just won an older model 2200 Epson photo printer. The printer wasn't used in some time and the printhead needed to be cleaned. Once I downloaded the driver from Epson's support site, the cleaning process was completed, the printer was fired up and it printed surpringly well-first time out. I use Photoshop elements 6.0 and tried to use Elements to control the printing. The colors didn't come out very well-regardless of what settings I applied. I went back and used the Epson software to control the color management and I got much truer colors.
If you want to get this printer my suggestion is not to use Photoshop elements 6.0 Photoshop CS3 apparently has superior color management controls but it's more than I wish to spend.
I've had a chance to print a bunch of 13 x 19 photos on various papers. By the way, I use Red River Paper for my photo paper needs. good ocmpany, great prices and quality is really fine. The prints come out incredibly well. As good as anything I've seen from a photo lab. Speed is a little slow. But, I'm not batch printing a lot of photos at one time, so speed to me is not an issue.I have not had this printer long enough to assess ink consumption. As a user of an HP - 8450 printer, I appreciate the single color ink cartridges. It really annoyed me to buy a tri-color HP ink cartridge knowing that only one of the colors in the cartridge was empty- a terrible waste of ink and money. HP needs to convert to single color cartridges.
All in all, a great buy at $71.00.

  Amazing Printer!

I have 3 of these Stylus 2200 printers and use them all the time. As a professional photographer I can be running multiple jobs at the same time such as proof prints on one machine and custom photo greeting cards on the other. I keep matte black ink in one and Photo black ink in the other two. I have used these printers for about 4 years and have never had one problem or had to call for help. As long as you let Photoshop determine the colors you will get what you see on your monitor. They are amazing printers and I absolutely love them. I even bought a 4th one and gave it as a gift to my daughter in law. She prints 12x12 photos for her Creative Memory books on them and is very pleased with the quality. To get the best quality onto your paper you must set up the print space profile to match the paper you are using, go to Print Settings and again choose your paper, choose advanced settings and turn off High Speed, then to Color Management and click No Color Adjustment. Save these settings as a preset and you are good to go.

  Good quality printer

This printer prints good quality images. The only downfall is that it is very finicky. I use my 2200's mainly for screen printing transparencies but some other prints. Once you get used to it it is a great printer.

Epson Stylus Photo 2200 Inkjet printer
Review created: 10/28/09

The photos I've printed thus far have turned out fantastic. As a test I printed about 8 photos and the only one that didn't turn out well was one that I printed on non-epson paper. It streaked something horrible (I don't remember the brand I was using.) When I went to epson high gloss and luster the same photo turned out incredibly well. I haven't tried the black and white yet.

The only negative I've found thus far is how much ink the cleaning process uses. This, paired with the fact that when you clean it uses all of the inks makes it an expensive process especially if the printer has been left without printing for a while. However, from what I've read there aren't many high quality photo printers that don't have this problem.

All in all I'm very pleased with this printer.

  Epson 2200 DOA
Review created: 08/01/09

unfortunately the item was DOA on arrival. Thinking it was an ink problem I purchased all new ink cartridges. Still all lights flashed. I brought unit to an Epson Service Center where I found out the unit was junk. It had been dropped, with small broken pieces found in bottom of case. The ink head needed replacement along with the logic board. est $600 + cost. I took a chance on a buy it now and lost. Perhaps its dropped in transit I don't know. Sometimes you lose.

  Great Printer!
Review created: 04/01/09

I bought this printer because a friend of mine had one and he was showing me how great the pictures printed. I decided to buy one myself to increase the quality of the pictures that I sold from my house. This printer really took out the middle man. I use to take my digital pictures to Walmart or Walgreens to get them developed, and it cost me a little bit to do it. Now, I do it myself and the extra money is great! I use Ultra premium and Luster paper in it and get great results.

  Good product
Review created: 02/09/09

I have found this product to be excellent so far; I have had it about two months, and although I don't print a lot of stuff, the stuff I have printed looks great.

My only recommendation would be, if you are going to buy this printer; make sure you also buy all the ink at the same time; esp. if you buy one used; because if some of the ink cartridges are low or dried up you will not be able to use your printer till you get fresh ink...

Also, I would recommend you buy a package of professional grade photo paper (8.5x11) at same time as buying printer, because you need it for some of the maintenance procedures.

But, again, in general, I am very happy with this printer, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice ink jet printer with the ability to print 11x17... The images look spectacular...

Hope this was helpful...
Sam
(Sorry I couldn't get into any of the technical aspect of the printer, but I am not a "computer person")
