I bought this to go with an I-Mac for my daughter. I like Epson printers and so checked this out. It is compatible with her I-Mac and does a good job. The simplicity of operating is always a plus. The model seems to print fairly fast and is ideal for what is intended for her printer's use.

Two of the three printeres I Bought from E-Bay work well. The Epson Stylus 740 is an older printer BUT a real workhourse!

I'm not a big fan of Epson's printers - but this is the ONE I do like. Other reviewers call it a workhorse - and it is. It's also the ONLY printer that I know of that has a triple interface using Apple 8 pin interface, USB, and PC Parallel. It is also the only printer that I know that Epson or HP made that will work on every single Mac and Every single PC ever made!
The 740i was a special edition version of the 740 that matched the original aqua Apple iMacs and G3 Yosemite Tower Macs. These printers look nice, print fast, and have cartridges that are refillable - something that Epson cartridges no longer have the capability of.
Cartridges are readily available and often on sale for this printer ... the triple interface makes this a very valuable tool even for a technician. Print a customer's data if you can't save it or recover it.

Excellent, but no thanks to eBay!!!I received my printer in good time and am totally satisfied with it. I got a confusing email from eBay saying it had been shipped about ten days after I had already received. When I wrote questions asking about different printers, eBay sent me the questions instead of the sellers and I never got any response on most of my questions. Get with it eBay!!!

THE PRINTER WORK AS FAR AS GOING THROUGH ALL THE MOTIONS OF TURNING ON, BUT IT DIDN'T PRINT ON PAPER. I EVEN PUT NEW INK CARTRIDGES IN IT. IT WORK THE SAME AS THE ONE I HAD. SO THAT WAS A WASTE OF MONEY.
THERE SHOULD BE SOME WAY OF GETTING OUR MONEY BACK WHEN WE RECEIVED NON- WORKING ITEMS FROM SELLERS WHO SAY IT WORKS AND DON'T.

Dependable, Fast & Inexpensive ink.I have been buying this exact same printer for 9 years. This is my 3rd. My first one (bought new) lasted 5 years and failed only because I dropped it. My second (bought used) is still working, but I bought the 3rd since you can only obtain them "used" and I wanted to have a backup just in case the market dries up. I have seen many friends and relatives complaining about the new printers that are now on the market that fail after 1 or 2 years, and contain micro-chips that do not accept any "Generic -Brand" inks - forcing you to have to pay the premium prices for OEM-supplied inks.
Pros: Dependable, Reasonably fast (for an inkjet), Inexpensive, creates great color copies. BUT MOST IMPORTANT: You can buy replacement generic ink "REAL CHEAP" (Can get Black for about 2.99 and Color Cartridge for 5.99.
Cons: Prints slow in "Fine" Mode (About 2 minutes per copy).

PRINTERI THINK THE PRINTER IS WORTHWHILE THAT THE GOOD CONDITION, THIS PRINTER HAS PAPER FEEDER, THE USB CORD PLUG IN, THE INK CARTRIDGES WORKS WELL. I WILL ENJOY THIS FOR MY DAUGHTER'S COLLEGE PRINTER. IT HAS BEEN VERY GOOD ONE SINCE I HAD THEM FOR A LONG TIME TIL IT DIED ON US. SO I BIDDED THE SAME PRODUCT. THANKS

Epson 740Could never get the printer to feed the paper. Thought it was a good deal but the installation message said the printer was out of ink but seller said cartidges had ink.

I thought at the time it was a good DEAL. Turned out I was Very Very Wrong... They were dried up. Plus getting returned emails i sent him were useless except the only 1 send it back. with my money turn out all of them i bought were the same condition. so i just went to office depot bought a black and color. printer worked just fine. Who took the loss ME of course. Just stay away from his Deals and you will be just fine. go some place else. LIVE AND LEARN. He is no good on his Word.

I wore out a Epson 740 and had a good supply of ink on hand when it died. The 740i that I bought was new in box and I could not believe my good fortune in finding this on eBAY with a very reasonable buy it now price.

While newer printers with multiple cardridges may have more accurate, vivid color, the quality on the Epson 740 is very good and the reliability even better. This printer is especially desirable for the cheap toner - no more than $2 or so each, compared to $15 or more for competing models with proprietary toner (which have computer chips to make sure you use only one brand). As a result, the 740 is about as inexpensive to run as they come. On used units, beware of models without the sheet feeder, which has been known to break.

The Epson 740 printer was one of the first really good photo printers. New during the mid 90s, the Epson 740 was around $100. At that time, I had a computer that printed via a serial port. The 740 also came with a USB connection which has worked on every succeeding generation of Mac computers I've owned— including a MacBook Pro. When new, the ink cartridges were expensive. Today, the cost of ink has come way down on eBay and sites like Databiz.com. I believe this is the reason the Epson 740 printers have held their value. Another reason is reliability. I gave mine constant use for over 10 years and it never failed. I broke it and bought another for parts— however, when the parts printer arrived, I discovered that it still worked fine! For photos, I've found that the ink will smear on cheap paper. I have gotten very good results with HP paper. If you don't need wireless capability, or fax and scanner functions, the Epson 740 is still a good color printer!
