Epson CX5400 - NOT a good deal !!! 11 of 13 people found this review helpful.
Prints well when it works. But, seems that it has a defunct life expectancy shortly after the warranty expires. Print heads begin to fade in quality, and within a matter of weeks the color print/copying goes south. Have checked several websites, and some repair facilities, and hear the same story from most: is a good printer when it works, but once it crumps, it will cost a bunch to replace the heads, and it's not worth it; buy a new printer. Have tried to resurrect at least one printer from three of these (don't buy used on eBay), swapping parts. Doesn't work. Finally bagged the whole deal and bought a new Lexmark to add to my suite of HPs. Can't rely upon Epson, at least not the CX5400; is a bad choice if you want longevity in color print quality. By the way, cartridges can be bought cheap through companies like Abacus or PrintPal -- $3-4.00 each beats the heck out of commercial retail prices.

I dislike the Epson Stylus CX5400 All-In-One InkJet Printer that I had purchased on eBay. Upon making the decision to purchase the printer, I had overlooked the fact that the item, though listed as functional, was not tested beyond simply being turned on and off. Therefore, assuming the All-In-One was fully functional, I decided to bid on the printer which I discovered, upon winning the bid and testing it after receiving it through UPS, was incapable of ejecting ink onto any type of paper placed into the feeder. Though thoroughly disappointed with the purchasing decision I had made, I realized the error had been on my part through my failing to appreciate the technicalities of the content of the printer's listing. I would, therefore, advise future eBay customers seeking to purchase items, such as a printer or any other similar device, to scrutinize the item's listing prior to deciding the product is a good buy mainly due to a price that, considering the condition and particular model of the item, appears unexpectedly low to moderate and, consequently, a great deal. It is also important to understand that a seller isn't really responsible for a product that does not function fully if he/she has not indicated this to be a feature or if the item, without shipping insurance, arrives in less than acceptable condition due to a rough trip, which may occur if the item is shipped without the proper designation of "Fragile" or "Handle with Care." Finally, one should also observe that it is possible to resell any non-functional item you have received through eBay as opposed to discarding it, provided the specification is made that the item is non-functional and is being sold for parts, or otherwise.
