  One of the Best Epsons

Few products make it to Epson's Hall of Fame. This is one of such products. The Epson Stylus Color 880 is fast, quiet, and extremely reliable. Unlike other printers, the 880 is Made in USA with Japanese components. It offers high resolution printing for photos, separate ink carts for colors and black, and an ultra quiet operation that won't wake up roommates sleeping in the same room. The Stylus Color 880 is the last generation of Epson printers that do not have the "chipped-cartridge" technology. This means that you don't have a little chip on the cartridge that tells the printer when the ink on the cartridge is out (when it may or may not actually be). This allows you to use each cartridge up to nearly empty thus saving you money. Plus, non-chipped cartridges are cheaper than chipped-cartridges. A quick search on ebay and you will find black ink carts for around $3 and color ink carts for around $5. It is simply one of the most cost-efficient inkjets you can own. We have two of such units and they deserve two thumbs up!

A WORK HORSE of a printer!!
Review created: 09/19/06
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I bought this printer more than 5 years ago and it's still working great! I use it nearly every day and have gone through dozens of ink cartridges. I always buy the cheap kind, not the expensive brand names; you can get them online for $3-$5 each. It takes one black and one color and is really easy to put in and take out.

The quality can be really, really nice. It can be set to "economy" mode and prints quickly, but very low quality. It can also be set to medium and the quality is good for everyday things, and it won't take too long. Or, the 3rd setting is highest quality, it can do 1440 dpi in which case the pictures are SUPER! You can make photo albums. However, it does take a LONG time to print photos!! Be prepared to wait 5 or 10 minutes for a nice photograph. It's slow, but worth the wait. There are actually more than 3 settings (5 I think) but those are the ones I use the most.

I will buy again from Epson in the future because of this good printer. I have used it a LOT and moved it, and it's still working great over many years; I am very satisfied with my Epson 880! I hope it never quits!!

Epson Stylus® Color 880 InkJet Printer

My experience is very similar to the first reviewer's. I bought my 880 at a thrift store for $3.00 too but I bought it for myself and I bought aftermarket cartridges instead of bulk ink.

This thing is a real tank. Nothing can stop it. Plus the print quality and speed are as good or better than many brand new printers. Has USB and parallel connectivity so it'll work with old and new machines.

Oh, did I mention how quiet it is?

One of the Best Printers ever produced

The Epson Stylus Color 880 has to be one of the best printers ever produced by Epson. It's fast, quiet, prints great looking documents and does an admirable job with photo printing as well. The best feature is that you can purchase aftermarket ink cartdriges for about three bucks a pop for both color and black and you can print until the print cartdriges are all but empty as there's no computer chip in them to shut you down because they think ink has run out. Just keep it clean and run a cleaning cycle on it every so often and the 880 will keep going for years.

I have two other printers like it and it is a real work horse for the office or home. Fast and reliable with aftermarket ink availability to make printing cost remain low. Colr printing, as well as text is fast and always looks good. works with many older computer programs I use.

  Nice for Printing TEXT

Nice Printer...perfect for TEXT work, when it comes to photos you can not compare the quality to the NEWER Epsons for PHOTOS...I own a few types of Epson Printers...and I will have to say the printer is good, but many times the cheap ink WILL NOT WORK IN THE 880 Epsons, and you can call Epson and ASK them...they will tell you the generic inks do not last because you do need to clean the cartrige MANY times until it is empty...KEEP in mind these printers are over 10 years old now so for photos you should go newer...

Product was a color printer, purchased when my printer went haywire. Printer was in excellent condition, however, it would not print yellow. Did cleaning process more than 10 times. Yellow would not print. Ordered a C80 from Amazon since e-bay had no more 880's for sale. Seller offered a refund. I told seller I would keep the 880 as a backup for use when I needed to print black only.

  Epson Stylus® 880 InkJet Printer-MANUAL,SOFTWARE,4 INK
Review created: 01/03/08

I have used a Epson 880 printer for 7 years, made thousands of cards, pictures, and scanned items. This printer has never given me a problem. The ink isn't expensive and I have used quite a few cartridges. Easy to load, very easy to correct any problems that may arrive, such as horizonal or vertical lines. I hated to have to sell my Epson, but, needed alot more besides just a printer, after my scanner died. I just hope and pray my new item gives me the service that my Epson did.

  super little printer
Review created: 11/24/07

This is a short story about the little printer that could. This 880 epson printer was bought for my 11 yr old daughter 5 yrs ago. and it has been super. Cheap to buy ink for, easy to work with, good quality everyday printing, Nice size not big and ugly like my R380,and still running after hundreds and hundreds of uses. But like most good products, that really do work good, they quit making it. If you have,or had one of these little printers you know what I'm talking about.

My original printer was purchased new and I used it for more than 9 years before I got the dreaded "end of service life" message. I have now purchased one on ebay and it works just as good as my original. Kudos to Epson for this high quality workhorse!!!

Not the best anymore, but rock solid
Review created: 04/15/07

This remains my favorite printer after I bought it in 2001 for under $100 after a rebate; it was one of the last "chipless" units, so generic inks are very inexpensive. I've been buying generic ink for it from Megatoners ever since new. I even had it in storage for over a year with ink carts in it, and it didn't even need a cleaning to start printing again.

Only once in it's life did I have concerns with it, which was today. The color cartridge or nozzle apparently dried out, as I've been using other printers, and printing only black with the 880 lately.

I threw in a new color cart, and went through about 10 cleanings today, and it's back to printing like new.

Printing is not as sharp as newer Epsons (like my RX620), and I wouldn't print photos with it, but it is a good everyday workhorse.

Buying a used one at this stage could be problematic, as the model is very long in the tooth. No doubt used ones have been used a lot.

  used printer

This was a used printer & i had no experience in buying a used one. So this turned out to be a bad choice & learning experience -Printers that are 3 yrs.old or well used are usually a through away item. This don`t hold true all the time but is a good rule to follow--I`m still looking for a 2 ink well printer yet--I`m still asking questions & researching -seem all or the ones i`ve looked at are not 2 ink wells but have many ink wells =$$--Just my view--john
