Industry Reviews The approach in this two-volume reference is unusual: instead of simple glossary entries in several languages, key words and concepts pertinent to the environment are presented in paragraphs of text that explicate their meaning. Written in parallel English, German, French, and Russian texts, the explanations incorporate clusters of related terms and present their use in context. Access to particular terms is via the indexes (in each language) which comprise volume two. Since environmental problems ignore international boundaries, clear understanding of the vocabulary among speakers of various languages is important, and is facilitated by this work. No pronunciation is supplied, the assumption being, perhaps, that those using the reference have a working knowledge of the language they are trying to interpret. Annotation copyright Book News, Inc.
