Synopsis Juan Williams, an NPR correspondent and author of EYES ON THE PRIZE, draws a line in the sand. On one side, in his view, are those for whom excellence is a goal and who will work for full participation by African Americans in the benefits of American life; on the other side are those who wallow in what he calls a "culture of failure." Williams is highly critical of black leadership that does not deliver, as well as of the hold that hip-hop culture has on today's youth, but he is optimistic, too, as he offers a program of self-empowerment designed to reconnect to the sense of purpose that marked African American culture in the previous era of Civil Rights.
