Antarctic Expedition through storms and icebergs

In the golden age of exploration, shortly before World War I, Ernest Shackleton and 27 men set out to become the first team of explorers to cross Antarctica from one end to the other. And here starts the ill-fated journey of one of the most awesome "man against nature" sagas ever told. Five months after departing England to Antarctica, the ship, Endurance, became icebound and entrapped. Shortly after Shackleton issued an abandon ship order, the ship crumbled under the pressure of ice and sank. The documentary then traces the men's perilous journey through storms and icebergs and ends in a dramatic climax of Shackleton's heroic attempts to rescue his men from Elephant Island.
The film, peppered with photographs and 35mm footage, taken by the expedition photographer, is haunting. Yet it stands as a testament to the human spirit of survival, leadership, and endurance.
