Just as everybody had written off the Beach Boys as passé, we were reminded of the colossal contribution that Brian Wilson had made to popular music with this inspired compilation. New Beach Boys albums were selling badly at the time of this release, and then somebody had the idea of packaging this superb collection of surf and car songs that reeked of sand, sea, sun and innocence. There is something special about 'catching a wave and you're sitting on top of the world', even though most followers have never been near a surfboard in their lives, let alone a clean beach.
