The Encyclopedia of Country Living by Carla Emery (2008, Paperback)

I absolutely love this book. Every thing you ever need to know, plus stuff you've never even dreamt of is in this book. Great old time recipes. Information on everything under the sun! I've been enjoying this book for years and just bought a copy for my sister-in-law.

This book is terrific for those who want to live like their Grandparents used to. It has everything from making homemade pickles to butchering hogs. There is also great tips on baking, health care, finances, building, taking care of land and any basic country life lessons.

I purchased The Encyclopedia of Country Living by Carla Emery (2008) and am very impressed by it. It covers everything from how to make fruit leathers to growing mushrooms to delivering a child unassisted. There are also great resources for more information if a person wants to learn more about a particular subject such as home birthing or drying your own fruits and vegetables. Excellent to have on hand especially with the economy the way it is and could become.

This book was recommended to me by a friend who is 99% into self sustainable living. There is so much information in this book that it will definitely take a little while to comb through it...but I would rather have TOO much information than be lacking in something I really need. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in farming, gardening, food storage, primitive living, etc.

Truly an excellent book that contains a wealth of knowledge that has been "real life" tested! Don't let the title mislead you, for there is a lot of useful information that both the suburbanite and urbanite can use, though primarily written for the homesteader type. Carla Emery's writing style will not only educate you, it will entertain you with her experiences and those shared by others! An enjoyable, informative read would be how I would describe this book if I was limited to one sentence!

The book is just what I wanted and the author puts so much information in this book, it is fun to read.
