  Best RTG ever played

Five years after it was released, Empire Earth remains the best real-time strategy game my family has played - and we have played most of them. Similar to Age of Empires, Empire Earth expands the timeline and covers all epochs from caveman to spaceman.

Armies are built through resource gathering, and with technology expansions it is not difficult to build powerful economic war machines that can produce impressive army, navy and air forces. We like the historical accuracy that allows catapults in the middle-ages or stealth fighters in the modern age. We also appreciate the realism of the scale/graphics. The AI can be tough at first, but that adds to the challenge. You can also use diplomacy or build defensive structures to gain advantages.

Too bad that Empire Earth 2 was a great disappointment, as reflected in the rapidly falling price of the game. Rather than adding to the gameplay of Empire Earth, they tried to reinvent the wheel and produced a poor quality substitute for the original.

Empire Earth Gold Edition is a better choice, and earns our vote for best Real Time Strategy Game.

Empire Earth (4/5)

Empire Earth could have easily been called Age of Empires 3 since the gameplay is so similar. As is typical with such games, resource collection, building institutions, and creating units is the bulk of gameplay. There are several ways to customize the game, including your choice of maps, civilizations, number of enemy civilizations, and so forth. One really good thing is that resources don't get depleted throughout the game, except for wood. That is, I was mining that same gold mine in epoch 8 as I was at the beginning of the game. Also, new units such as the hospital, prophets, wonders, and firearms add some interesting gameplay elements. One thing that I noticed was that the gameplay is slow, largely due to the huge amounts of resources that you have to collect to advance through the ages. Also, the enemy AI is clever and ruthless even on the easiest difficulty setting. As with the Age of Empires games, diplomacy is a weak part of the game. Overall, I liked the gameplay, but I don't recommend trying to play through all 14 epochs--you can choose to limit the number you play--unless you don't mind playing the same game for days. Graphics are decent. You can zoom in and out, but probably will not find a need to do so very often. They are an improvement over the graphics of the Age of Empires games, but not much. The music is okay and the special-effect sounds are nice. The villagers speak in English regardless of their civilization. If you enjoy strategy games or are a fan of the Age of Empires games as I am, you should like Empire Earth. However, in my opinion, this game is not the classic that these other games are because of its lack of originality and rather slow pace.

Empire Earth expansion (5/5)

This expansion has it all! It has a whole new epoch in 2200 (the Space Age) 3 new campaigns, (Roman, Pacific, Asian) better graphics (I like the artillery craters) more units, (Cyber Ninja, SAS Commando, Watchman, etc) more buildings, (Space Dock, Space Turret, Palisades, etc) more techs, new heroes, more civilizations, the new addition of specific powers, and the next frontier, Space! Empire Earth is a great game, Art of Conquest makes it even better!

This game is highly addictive. The computer on hardest mode is very challenging. Even tho the game is quite old there's nothing else like it. The EE2 is not as good: too much frenzied action. In EE sometimes a whole battle can turn on 1 or 2 critically placed units.

It's similar to Age of Empire except that there are 15 Eras. Also a very detailled game editor that lets you custom program scenarios: if anybody wants email me for about 10 custom scenarios.

Also once you start the game you can remove the disk.

My son wanted this game but we didn't realize that it wasn't for windows vista. We contacted the seller and he told us what to do, but the game was actually ok for the vista, the problem was with the graphics and we were never able to get that fixed, regardless, my son loves the game. I wish it were perfect though, but the seller was good and tried to help. I wouldn't have a problem ordering from them again.

  Empire Earth Gold Edition
Review created: 02/24/09
by:

While I have not played this computer game, my son and his friend and his friend's dad have played it. It seems to be an excellent game: educational, using critical thinking, flexibility, and cunning.

I chose the older edition, Gold Edition, rather than EE two because my son said it is easier for kids than the newer version.

You build an empire, following the actual timeline and historical facts for the earth. Then as time passes, it progresses. You encounter other civilizations created either by the computer or other people who are networded with your computer. You have wars, treaties etc. The game moves forward progressively in time.

Seems like a decent computer game for parents or people who want their children's computer gametime to be useful and educational as well as fun.

The best computer game I’ve played so far!
Review created: 06/24/07

The best computer game I’ve played so far!

-The Good
-Gameplay
-Graphics
-Variety of…Well, Everything
-Campaigns
-Multiplayer
-Online Capabilities
-The Bad
-Occasional Lag
-The Summary
-This game, in my opinion, is the best PC game I have ever played. You have three choices; Random Map, Campaign and Multiplayer. In Random Map Mode, you set out the basic of your game (difficulty, team color, game epoch, etc.), then you progress through the game, building buildings and creating an army to destroy the enemy.
In campaign, you can choose to act out the story of some of the most well-known countries; Greece, Britain, Germany and Russia. You progress through multiple levels, completing certain objectives, often having to do other tasks besides destroy an enemy.
Lastly, there is multiplayer. This feature can use either LAN or the Internet. You can link up with some friends nearby, or use the Internet to battle player from around the world.

Once you get the hang of it, it is a lot of fun. I like it because it isn't to complicated, yet I get beat from time to time. My husband and I were always fighting over the game so I ordered this one so we could both play.
