Emotional Healing at Warp Speed by David Grand (2001, Hardcover)

The author gives a background and examples of what EMDR can do. I bought this book for a friend as a gift, and it really is the best gift one can give to someone who has suffered for years from some traumatic incident that occurred in their childhood or as an adult. People who have gone through the worst that life has thrust upon them have come out of this therapy as different people and fully functional members of society. Trauma's that have issues involving self esteem, rape, war trauma's, childhood incidents, all these and more, have on the average been cured at a 70% to 80% success rate when other forms of (more intrusive) therapy have failed or reached a maximum of about a 30% success rate (not including relapses of the problems!).
The author gives a good understanding of the therapy and what it can and cannot do. One should however make sure to find an EXPERIENCED and licensed practitioner of this therapy since inexperienced novices can cause more harm than good (as in all therapies).
One other point that the author mentions is that whereas other therapies can take months and sometimes years to resolve trauama's and psychological problems, this therapy is FAST and cures of one meeting are possible and have taken place but usually 3 to 5, 90 minute meetings have cured most symptoms of trauma. After reading this book, I also came across a new therapy with similar principles which may be quicker and easier to handle. The therapy is called TAT and was invented by Tapos Fleming. Just do a search on google for more information on this form of therapy which anyone can do!
