Emerson SpongeBob SquarePants 13 inch TV

The Emerson SpongeBob 13" TV/DVD Combo may be a good item if you purchase it NEW (though I have to question that, since there are so many "refurbished" items on eBay, which indicates items being repaired and resold, which indicates a lot of defective items).

However... BEWARE of refurbished items. I purchased one of these TVs from an eBay PowerSeller in January 2008. He described the item as "Like New" with a 30 day warranty against defects. He even offered a SquareTrade Extended Warranty Plan with his item... so I purchased the item and the warranty in good faith.

When the item arrived... the shipping carton was in fine shape... but the item box inside was dirty and damaged. The TV appeared clean... but the remote had an ink stain about an inch long on the front, that wouldn't wash off.

Then... we set up the TV and my son began playing his DVDs. It worked for about 1-2 hours, then it would no longer read the discs. I tried everything I could think of (changed the discs, cleaned the discs, unplugged and restarted the TV)... but nothing worked. The item was DOA, less than 2 hours after receipt.

I contacted the seller and requested that he issue a UPS call tag and have them pick up the DOA item. I requested a full refund once he received my return. I didn't think he sent the DOA item on purpose... but I did feel that he was responsible and that I should not have to lose money when he shipped a DOA item.

The seller wanted me to pay the $35 return shipping... and said he would only refund the price of the TV, once he received it. This meant that I would pay $35 return shipping and I would lose the $35 original shipping.

So... I would pay $70 in shipping fees and have nothing to show for it!

Now... I'm not unreasonable. If I purchase an item and change my mind... I expect to pay the return shipping fees and lose the original shipping fees... because it's my fault for changing my mind and I shouldn't expect the seller to lose money over my error.

However... when I purchase an item described as "Like New" with a 30-Day Warranty and an extended warranty plan... and the item is immediately defective and "significantly not as described*... well, this is NOT my fault and I expect the seller to take care of the issue and handle the cost.

I could not reach an agreement with the seller. I had to file a Dispute with PayPal... which they decided in my favor. They issued a $35 credit to my PayPal account, to cover the return shipping. I provided PayPal with the UPS tracking number and they issued a full refund of my original purchase price, plus the original shipping, once the seller received my return.

So... it took about 2 weeks to resolve this issue and get a full refund. I wasted my time and effort with the seller and his defective item... and if it wasn't for PayPal... I would have lost $70 in shipping fees.

Please learn from my mistake and beware of buying this item when it's listed as "refurbished". You're not really saving money if you get an item that's defective.

I purchased the tv for my son's room. When I first got it, I put a dvd in and it worked. When my son got back from his dad's, The tv/dvd player did not work. It said there was no disk in. I would assume the tv/dvd player would work more than a month. I don't want to buy anything else from eBay. I haven't had any luck with anything.

I purchased this unit for my 5 year old nephew for Christmas. I only had time to visually inspect it prior to gift wrapping and it appeared to be fine. Turns out the DVD player would not load so I sent it back. They sent another one with the DVD door crushed in. I eventually got my money back plus the shipping fee's, but how do you explain to a 5 year old that he can no longer have it and has to give it back?
It was an absolutely horrific experience, and I didn't even get an appology.
I'll never do business with them again.

hello, i thought this would be the perfect present from santa. wrong. my 8 year old got this and a dvd player for christmas from santa. you can hook the dvd player up, but this t.v. will not let you push in # higher than 9 on the remote. you have to use the up and down button. we don't know why you push in like 29 for nick.channel but if you push in 29, you go to 2. it is really strange but that is the only way it works. then there is no channel to play the dvd player on. so they can't be hooked up together to watch a movie. my son doesn't understand why santa brought him a dvd player and a spongebob t.v. and they won't even work together. this really upset me to see him disappointed in what santa brought him. i picked this t.v. because it was the first item on his christmas wish list. the t.v. has a perfect picture just isn't what i thought i was buying. thank you, tammy

I bought this because my daughters love Spongebob! I bought this in June and it burned out in September. Lasted almost a whole 4 months. Just turned off and never came back on

Needed spongebob tv for my 3 year old and the seller never sent me the item. I wrote to seller several times and got no repsonse. It will be 2 wks on Wed. and I have no tv or feedback. This sucks! I can't beleive how people can just rip people off and take their money like that. People are cruel and sneaky out there... no wonder noone trust anyone anymore because of people lik this.

we brought it for our grandson. he loves it, but if it is turned up too much the sounds becomes crackles and hard to hear.

very small i would say buy for a 1-7yr old after thet its just crazy and the sponge bob factor id gr8 if you have like some of the teens that are into it as well but 2 actualy wath it would be crazy for anyone over 11

Well I bought this as a present for my son and he loves it. He likes when you lower or raise the volume spongebob has different faces. He likes the face on the exterior of the tv.
