The Elizabeth Gaskell Collection (DVD, 2008)

As a fan of Victorian & Regency literature, I eagerly awaited Masterpiece Classic's adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's Cranford. The story was excellent & it was such a pleasure to see such wonderful acting. The creme de la creme of English actors appeared in even the smallest parts! Her other works in the set are fabulous also. I bought this set as I have almost worn out my copy of North & South from repeated viewings! The ending scene is one of the most romantic scenes ever filmed ( even if it deviates from the novel) & Richard Armitage & Daniella Denby-Ashe are a couple with great chemistry. Wives & Daughters is a compelling & sweeping novel that will keep you quite interested in it's multiple characters. This is such a great set of DVD's to add to your collection.

These are wonderful adaptations of lesser known novels by a great writer who is fortunately now being rediscovered. All of these films are very well done, with the standouts being Cranford and North & South (if you've watched the Firth-Ehle Pride & Prejudice so many times you're actually a little tired of it, you will love North & South!) Even the changes made by the filmmakers generally stick pretty close to the spirit of the novels ... These films are so beautifully made and written -- if you are a period film fan, these are for you!

I have enjoyed all three movies. I purchased the set because I had seen Cranford and really liked it. The other two are very good but Cranford is the best!

Love all 3 stories. Authentic acting. Scenery wonderful.You could get caught up the story lines and feel you were there

I was first saw Judi Dench act in Cranford on PBS. I was looking for that movie when I found the collection. I was delighted with the collection. Sets, costtumes and story lines well presented.

For the lover of great English BBC classics, this is fantastic! Gaskell is a fine storyteller & nobody does a period drama like BBC. Get a platter of snacks, a liter of something to drink & tune out the worldQ

I read the books, love the movies. i think it is a great buy and i would recommend it to anyone. i think that the movies are excellent adaptations of the books. my favorite is North and South. if you like jane austen and william shakespeare you will love elizabeth gaskell.

Elizabeth Gaskell is an excellent author and her writings are portrayed beautifully in each and everyone of these series. Definitely a must in everyone's collection.

All 3 films in this collection are excellent! There isn't anything in any of them that would be objectionable for children to watch - a rarity today! They are just great stories that can be watched & enjoyed over and over. Highly recommend this collection!
