Part 2 of The Inheritance Series

I normally do not sit down and read books, as I am not an avid reader, but this was a pleasant exception. I read this book from start to finish in just a few days and I simply loved every minute of it. It is the 2nd book in The Inheritance Trilogy, and the sequel to Eragon. I would recommend this book to anybody who enjoys the Fantasy/Adventure genre of books, particularly people who enjoy dragon books. Read Eragon first, and then read Eldest. You wont regret it.

  BOY BOOK!
Review created: 04/08/06(updated 06/04/06)

If you are a 6th-8th grade boy this is a fantastic pick! This is the classic orphan boy storyline that reads exactly like Star Wars: boy raised by uncle finds out his father is the empire of doom. It has a cool dragon and the real learning curve is a battle of ?real? brothers and the bonding of ?adopted? brothers but most teens miss that part.

As an adult who reads a lot of teen literature I found this a good read and I was genuinely interested in the character development of ALL the brothers and the dragon. It did not keep me up all night riveted, but it did make great ?forced? bedtime reading for teenage boys who hate to read. It is a story that is best served by being read out loud by a good reader that can pronounce weird words in a flash.

This is part two and unfortunately it will leave you hanging because the third book is not out yet. So if you are an adult who waited until all the Harry Potter books are written before you start the series, then be warned we have no inside news on when book three is coming out.

I recently picked up the book eldest and i have to say that i did like it. Let me tell you why. Well, to start off with, I like fantasy novels. A lot. I got Eragon for a christmas present last year and I read it within a day. I couldnt wait to get the next one. But then it DID come out, and I read it within a day again. Some of the book was surprising, but only the end really captured me like Eragon did. I thought it was ok, only a shadow of what it could have been. All the charecters, except I think for Eragon himself, were slightly flat. I think I would have enjoyed it more if i didnt rip right through it. I have, however, reread it, and that is what made me decide to give it a 4 out of five. I would have givin it a 2 out of 5, because as I speed read it, I missed alot of the few subtle hints at what was REALLY going on, instead of a edge of your seat thriller the whole way through. This was How I felt about Eldest

Eldest - Follows Up The Excellence That Was Eragon

I'll be the first to admit: This book is not for everyone. In fact, some people hate it with every fiber of their being.

HOWEVER, if you're someone looking for a fun tale, or if you enjoy reading anything about dragons, magic or fantasy in general, you will love this book.

If you're looking for something deep and intelligent, go find Ian McEwan or something. But if you liked Harry Potter, Eragon and Eldest are for you!

A good book, but not as intriguing as the first...

Eldest is a good book, but I thought it was much slower paced than its preceeding book, Eragon. No matter, it's still a good book. I'd still recomend it if you want to find out what happens if you read Eragon. In fact, this book contains a few unexpected surprises!!! A book worth reading.

  The Page Turner Continues

Where Eragon leaves off Eldest continues to sweep you along in a wonderful, vivid world of elves, dwarves, dragons and other mysterious creatures in a battle so epic that two books can not complete the whole story! Paolini's writing is seemless and fluid, with such detail that I can see exactly what he is describing in my imagination as I am reading the story as it unfolds before me. I can not wait for Book 3!

Not a great follow up to Eragon, but WORTH reading def!

I bought this book the next day after finishing Eragon. I love the whole dragon fantasy story idea of young Eragon. I'm in my 20's and it was a little more childish than I would have liked, but all and all a book worth reading, especially if you're already read Eragon. If I was a teenage, I would probably give this book 5 stars.

If you are older like myself, the book definately proves that it was written by a teenage. It's somewhat slow (as in not much happens, not slow as in boring) for the first 500 pages (out of 700), but interesting enough to keep you turning more and more pages. I couldn't wait to find out about the dragon on the front cover. Its also a little predictable, but also in a well told story as if this was a filler book for the last chapter (book 3).

Bottomline: I'll probably be in my 30's when the 3rd book comes and I CAN'T WAIT! And if you haven't read harry potter and liked the first eragon, I'd highly recommend those as well as this book, Eldest...

  Favorite chapter and more
Review created: 03/08/06

My favorite chapter has to be about the ants. A seemingly unimportant being in our universe but when you study this unimportant being, we can find some lessons in which we too can live by.

The book itself is wonderful and a great followup to the first book: Eragon. It is filled with many surprises that I wish not to reveal here. I will reveal one thing that won't be surprising to readers of the first book, WARNING SPOILER IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE FIRST BOOK ERAGON, 2 words: the twins.

I can't wait until the next book. It should be very eventful. There are so many questions I have like..........I won't ruin this book for those who haven't read it but recommend this book greatly.

The first book, by the way, was written by the author when he was 16 years old. The book can be categorized as fantasy. It is a childrens book so there isn't any sexual acts in it. There be some slightly bad language but no profanity that I remember. It is a fantasy book which means it contains magical acts, both good and bad. Eragon is on the good side. I fell in love with Eragon(the book) with the first reading. I'm a avid Harry Potter fan and there was a forum on "mugglenet" forum about other books you like and I saw Eragon pop up many times so I decided to check it out and the rest as they say is history.

Eldest review (I couldn't put it down!)

This is an amazing story! A young man, Eragon, forms a mental bond with a dragon, Saphira, connecting them in everything they do. Eragon and Saphira must join forces with a variety of races to defeat an evil dictator. Laced with plot twists (especially the shocker at the end!), absolutely stunning grammer and wordplay, it's no wonder the series is outselling Harry Potter! A must-read for all fiction enthusiasts.

  Gotta have books!
Review created: 11/25/08

When I asked my little brother in law what he wanted for Christmas this year he told me the same thing he tells everyone: video games! But thats all he does. So I decided he needed some books to read. I was able to get all three on here for under $30 and that includes shipping! Now he will be working his brain instead of zoning out in of the tube! Gotta love eBay!

This book is wonderfully written. I thoroughly enjoyed Eragon and I was excited to read what happened next, but in Eldest like the character Eragon himself, the book matures. I was taken through so many twists and turns I couldn't put it down. I didn't want to stop. it left me hungry for more. My 11yr old daughter and I often talked trying to speculate what would happen next in the new book Brisingr. Finally! a book parents and children can bond over and thoroughly enjoy together. BRAVO!!
