This wonderful 1947 movie with Claudette Colbert and Fred MacMurray is about a man who wants to be a chicken farmer and the city girl who marries him. Betty(Colbert) tries to be supportive but her enthusiasm wanes when she sees the horrible house that Bob(MacMurray) has bought in this backwoods country. Everything that can happen, happens......where is a handyman when you need one? Well...life is an endless battle with repairs, rain and the livestock. On top of it all they have a very sexy neighbor with an updated, modern farm who is flirting with Bob. Now we come to the fun family.....the Kettle's who live down the road. Pa is always dropping by to borrow something from Bob and Betty but finds excuses not to help them with repairs. Ma has her hands full with LOTS of kids in a house that is almost as bad as Bob and Betty's. The Kettle's are right out of hicksville but they keep everyone amused with their colorful antics. From this Betty MacDonald best-seller will come more "Ma & Pa Kettle" movies, starring Marjorie Main and Percy Kilbride. This is a 5 star movie!
