Synopsis This Harry Bosch novel by thriller powerhouse Michael Connelly focuses on a missing persons case, originally assigned to Bosch in 1993, that has gone unsolved for 13 years. Marie Gesto's disappearance frustrated Bosch enough that even when he went off the force and into retirement, he kept the case file with him. Now, years later, Bosch is back on the force, and a convicted murderer has confessed to killing Marie, along with several others. But something seems fishy about this guy's confession, and Harry will to stop at nothing to ferret out the truth.

Industry Reviews "Connelly offers a stellar demonstration of why, as Harry says, "taking it straight to the heart is the way of the true detective," whatever the costs to himself and others." (starred review) (06/01/2006)
"Mr. Connelly now does some of his writing in Mr. Chandler's old apartment, a place he uses for inspiration. No living crime writer has a better right to be there." (10/16/2006)
