I purchased this because my bookkclub picked it as a read. I was open to it and expected so much more due to it's poularity. Holy Cow! I think she's taken narcissism to a whole new high. India; Indonesia; Italy I I I WAS MORE LIKE Me mE Me!

I went back to read this 10 times, & got through 1/4 of it. It was the whining that finished me off. Desperate to finish, I borrowed the Book on CD read by the author. That brought it back up to an average.

Not happy with this purchase at all. I Still have not received book more than a month later. I have tried contacting the seller to ask for a refund and followed the process detailed on their site. I still have received no reply (or refund) and it's been weeks since I emailed.

Like a Couple Hours With Your Best Friend

There aren't enough superlatives for this one! It's warm, funny, engaging, provacative and deeply spiritual, without being didactic. Following a brutal divorce, the author takes a year off to find her spiritual center by traveling to Italy, India and Indonesia. The fact that she also finds love is icing on the cake, but what this book is really about is emotional healing, growth, and a deep connection with God. Warning -- this is not a traditional journey, but it is certainly one worth taking. I read it the first time to see what happened. I'll read it the second for its wisdom. Fortunately, the writing is so good it practically tap dances.

Why I bought Eat, Pray, Love

I bought the book for my girlfriend after she saw it on Oprah. She hasn't been able to put the book down since she started reading it and has enjoyed Elizabeth Gilbert's work.

I bought this book on the recommendation of a friend and loved it! I think the biggest "draw" to this book is the style in which the author writes. I love her sense of humor, most especially the way she laughs at herself. It is not at all what I expected and that was a very pleasant surprise.

I found this book to be wry, tender, funny, and searingly honest... part travelogue, part comedy, part drama. It's sort of a spiritual Bridget Jone's Diary. A+++

I read the reviews and thought it would be a really great read. Particularly since I am in the "empty-nest" stage of life. I just couldn't get into this book. It's slow going. I'm sure some really liked it, but NOT for me.

  beat up
Review created: 08/25/09(updated 08/25/09)

I know the description said that book could be warped or bent, but I was surprised to see the entire outside edges of the book appear to be beat up. I was thinking a little wear and tear like someone has read the book already, but this was in worse shape than a library book. You're definitely getting what you pay.

However, the book is fantastic. I was told to read it after a hard break up and it inspired me to find my own path to happiness and to find myself. really good book, and she's coming out with a new one!

I found Elizabeth Gilbert one of the most annoying people I've ever read -- she really carried on! But by the time she got to Bali (the third part of the book), she had calmed down and become much more effective in her own life -- I really liked how she fundraised for her friend's house and I liked even more how she finally found a way to convince her friend to use the money and actually buy herself the house --

  Great book! Highly recommended!
Review created: 04/23/08

First of all the book is absolutely worth it to spend your time on. It is mostly for women. I highly recommed to listen to this book instead of reading. Elisabeth Gilbert the author of the book recorded it and her voice and interpretation is fenomenal. She has one of those very interesting and pleasant to listen tones. It is a great driving companion. Trust me you won't be dissapointed.
