East is East

East is East is a movie about a family who's chief dysfunction is religion. The father, despite his best efforts, which fall short of perfection, are further compromised by his lack of ability to adhere to his religious beliefs while trying to live in London in the 70's with his non-Eastern raised wife, and his six sometimes rebellious children.
The character of the mother, on the other hand, fed up from trying to balance her love for her children while at the same time her love and respect for her husband, shows how hilarious and sometimes sad it can be to be the hub of such adversity.
This is another hilarious version of dysfunction at it's best which is made even more delightful and new because it gives a glimpse into the customs of an Eastern lifestyle and the often unseen challenges that brings to life in the midst of a mostly Catholic community.
I love this movie because it's a very true and mostly delightful, although sad at times, depiction of dysfunctional life and how any family might cope with life's differences and challenges.
If you like the movie, "Home for the Holidays," with Holly Hunter and Anne Bancroft, you should equally like this as well. The only drawback is that it's sometimes difficult to understand the Eastern accent of some of the characters, but that just adds to the delightful funniness of the movie.
