Dyson DC21 Canister Cleaner

I wanted to get something that was more convenient and easier to use than our Kirby and the DC21 does the job. It gets ito places the Kirby can 't and does a great job of pulling up dog hair. my only gripe is that the cord is too short. I have to use an extension (medium duty, for safety sake) in order to get everywhere I need.

Otherwise I think very highly of this vacuum.

We are a Dyson loving family. I have purchased Dyson's for all three married children and this is my latest edition. Powerful, flexible, love it!

i bought this vacuum to deal with the pet hair of my three cats and two dogs. it works fabulously. i have absolutely no complaints about its function or design. i even enjoy using it.

I bought the Dyson with high expectations. I wanted a quality machine. The vacuum works great, picks up well, good suction, easy canister removal for emptying and cleaning. The things I don't like are.
1 The telescoping wand is cumbersome and heavy, when you attach one of the small tools I feel I am holding this huge heavy club like thing with a tiny petite tool on the end, it is not a comfortable feeling.
2 The flexible hose winds and stores on the machine as advertised. But it doesn't like being straightened out, it wants to stay wound up. So it kinks easily. It doesn't have a swivel feature on the hose so it doesn't always do what you would like it to, you can't twist the wand into all the positions you might like, not good for the small attachments.
3 There is a bare floor brush but no place to store it on the machine.
4 The carpet head works well and does store on the machine. But when you hang it on the machine it rests on the floor so the machine will not move once it is attached in the storage position. So you don't attach it for storage until you have put the machine in the final storage place.
To summarize, I wish I had not bought it. It works well but is not convenient to use. I have had canister vacs which I did like, and thought I would like the Dyson, but I don't.

The following are the most objective, honest points about this unit that that I think you'll come across (besides, I'm a stockbroker, not a vacuum salesperson, and do not stand to benefit if Dyson sells more or less units). First the negatives, then the positives.

Negatives:
- doesn't roll easily on the floor
- chord is a little too short
- the tube is too bulky and gets twisted if you are not careful
- the extension arm collapses sometimes when I bump up against a wall or bed post.
- overall heavy and bulky feeling. Definitely not the most nimble unit on the market.

Positives:
- the best damn suction on the market!! I was SHOCKED how many tiny bits of dust and dirt I picked up the first time I used it. It was very obvious that the air quality of the exhaust of superb as extremely tiny particles were trapped in the canister.
- the cannister lets you see everything you've picked up. The psychological satisfaction of looking at all that crap should not be underestimated. They say you don't have to empty the main canister every time but you will. The satisfaction is too much to pass up. And if you happen to suck up anything valuable by accident, you can retrieve it easily.
- the vacuum looks very futuristic. It's a great looking design.

Overall, I love this vacuum because it so incredibly effective at cleaning. The extra effort in moving it around and dealing with the other negatives become a non-issue. I replaced my cheap vacuum because I couldn't stand the dust that it kicked out of the exhaust (apparent a day or so after I vacuum and by the fact that the bag took forever to fill up). The Dyson picked up more my first time using it than my old vacuum picked up after a dozen uses. This is no exaggeration. The Dyson totally 'sucks', you'll love it.

It is a great vacuum and stands for the DYSON brand. But the cord is too short and the wand is thick and inpractical. It also can't be removed from the hose (as previous canister models), so the hose could be used(with proper attachment) for tasks like dusting or cleaning tight and hard to reach spaces.

This is the most amazing vacuum I have ever used. So easy to dump, no bags or filters to replace. Just clean the filter every six months. My mom bought the Electrolux at the same time & paid more than me, what a mistake that vacuum already has lost suction & is very hart to clean out when clogged.
I am glad I did my research first.
Absolutly worth $400 +

due to weather problems they were late shipping the item so they credited me a nominal fee to make up for the inconvenience without being asked. A really nice thing to do!

with 2 dogs 1 cat and 2 kids this is a god send we went over the rug with our old vacuum and then with the dyson i could not blive the amount of crap that was pick up by the dyson if you have the money it is worth every penney

This is a great cannister vac! It has excellent reach, & suction. It is also highly maneuverable and handles stairs and the gaps around church pews easily. Also picks up very fine particulate matter, like tobacco ash and dust like no vacuum I have ever used.

I love my DC21. The fact that it is bagless makes it so easy to clean. It's light weight and easy to move around the house. It goes under and around furniture easily and it picks up more then any other vacuum I have ever owned.
I don't really have any dislikes. I bought the vacuum because of the Dyson reputation.

I cannot believe the superior performance of the vacuum cleaner!- I have used a high end vacuum for years, but when I used my Dyson the first time I was shocked at what was in the canister!!!!- It was as if I had never vacuumed!- Highly recommended and believe me once you try it you will never question the price again!

Not crazy about the telescoping wand, it doesn't stay at full length that easy. Other than that, love the vacuum. Well worth the money.

It's powerful, compact, well built and convenient. The fact is that even buying this at full retail would still have been the best purchase I've ever made. It may be a little pricey, but the DC21 justifies itself every time you turn it on. If you're considering buying one, do no hesitate. Normally I can find at least one complaint about everything I've bought, but this is the exception!

Great vacuume that looks cool, but is expensive. At least it does what it says it will do and sucks good.

I have used this vacuum twice now and have been really impressed with the amount of suction it had. It pulled an increadable amount of dirt out of the carpet. The nice thing about it is you don't have to mess around with bags and has a washable filter. Works excellent on hardwood floors. It stowes away nicely in a closet without taking up much room. I would highly recomend it!

This thing is wonderful. The motor is super quiet. So quiet, we can vacuum the baby's room while he is sleeping! We were amazed the first time we used it right after using our traditional vacuum. The Dyson was still able to get dirt and pet hair that the old vacuum simply left behind. The exhaust filtration works very well. It is great to not smell the dirty dusty air after vacuuming. We procrastinated for 2 years on buying the Dyson, but never again. The Dyson is absolutely worth the hefty price tag. This is an investment that any parent can be happy with.

I replaced my DC7 which I loved with the canister. Most of my house is either hardwood or tile with the exception of my carpeted stairs. The dc7 not having a beaterbar attachment made it very difficult to really clean the stairs. I love the canister, the only drawback is the length of the cord.

I had heard so much about the Dyson vacuums and it was all good so I decided that my next vacuum would be a Dyson. It is also my first canister. I have owned quite a few vacuums over the years and so far, this one tops them. The suction, what they are known for, is great. At first it felt clumsy to use but I have since gotten used to it. It is a snap to empty, which I love. I really dislike changing bags. I love the fact that I don't have to worry about replacing filters as well. I've found so far that it's worth the investment!

Amazing Vacuum! I had no idea that it would pick up as much dirt and hair out of my carpets as it did!! I am very pleased with my Dyson DC21 and would highly recommend it to everyone.

I love my new vacuum. My Dyson canister. What can I say, other than it does not vacuum for you. Perfect suction, ease of use, versitility and just the love.

I never received the ebay item for which I bid. Write to the customer several times, and I got a response that item was on the way. I was really dispointed.

We purchased this vacuum about a year ago. I will say that it does pickup dirt and other debris great. I don't like the cord as it seems too short and the hose is too long. The hose will kink very easily if you aren't careful maneuvering the canister. I wished that we got the upright.
