I moved from Dallas to Los Angeles in 2003. Feeling a little homesick, I decided to treat myself to this DVD, just to hear some really good music that reminds me of home. I wasn't a big country music fan when I was living in Texas but lately I've been craving it and this performance by Dwight Yoakam and his band really delivers. I believe it was filmed in 1989 after the release of "Buenos Noches From a Lonely Room" Every song is played with razor sharp precision and Dwight's vocals are truly beautiful. The music ranges from rockabilly to bluegrass to country to Bakersfield Sound to accoustic. The entire show is completely flawless but some highlights are an inspired performance of "Streets of Bakersfield"(with a couple of surprise guests), a witty, raunchy rendition of "What I Don't Know", a great Johnny Cash cover ("Home of the Blues")and a heartwrenching delivery of "She Wore Red Dresses". I was especially moved by the fiddle playing of Scott Joss, particularly on "1,000 miles". "I Sang Dixie" was also a stand-out and the finale is a wild speed-bluegrass performance of "This Drinkin Will Kill Me" which actually made me zoom-in on Pete Anderson's finger work on the guitar. Before each song, Dwight gives the audience the background information, always a pretty good story. The camera work is terrific, and the stage lighting vivid and bright on a dark backdrop and everybody in the band is dressed for the occasion. Thanks Dwight!
