Dune (HD DVD, 2006)

This movie has been heavily reviewed elsewhere and chances are, you've already seen it- so why buy the HD-DVD version? As one who owns the earlier DVD version I can say honestly that the HD-DVD is vastly superior. Glorious, hither-to- unseen details of the incredible sets pop out everywhere. The colors of the costumes and textures of the fabric are amazing! It's obvious that great care went into all aspects of production design, and though I'd seen this film many times, this version was a revelation. Naturally, you must have an HD-DVD player to see this as it is not yet available on Blu-ray and it won't play on regular DVD players. You also need an High-definition TV of course. I'm sure it will make its way to Blu-ray soon; in the mean time, consider buying an HD-DVD player. Because they are a dead format (Blu-ray won) the prices are ridiculously cheap. Most importantly, they are fabulous upconverting players that make your regular DVD's look much better and you can also play true HD-DVDs. (Also really cheap right now) It's not like the player will die tomorrow- you'll get years of good use out of it like any good DVD player.
Back to the subject- bottom line, if you have the gear and like the film, you'll LOVE this DVD.
