The Dukes of Hazzard (DVD, 2005, Unrated, Widescreen Edition)

The movie "Dukes of Hazzard", which of course is based on the popular television series that ran through the late seventies and early eighties, left me feeling good at seeing some familiar plotlines, stunts, and friends, while at the same time making me miss the original's all the more.

We have the core of what made the Dukes of Hazzard intact...Backwoods Southern spoof's about moonshining and knowing everyone in town, crooked cops, and cute cousins. Spectacular jump scenes of the infamous General Lee Car as well as a plotline filled with corruption in which the end justifies the means...or in this case the justice ends up with the Dukes coming out on top.

What disappointed me was that the cops of the show were non-existent in terms of depth, humor, and overall performance. Unlike the original series where Roscoe/Enos were mainstays and integral part's of the show, the actors who portrayed these characters in this were faceless, nameless, and pretty much useless.

Burt Reynolds turn's in a pretty good performance as Boss Hogg, despite the fact he is different in stature than the original Boss, he makes a great sinister villian. The same can be said for having Willie Nelson as Uncle Jessie. Jessica Simpson does more for Daisy Duke's sexual appeal than any other Southern Bell in Hazzard competing for a boy's attention could hope.

What helps us hold onto the past is the original theme song by Waylon Jennings (I think) as well as a superb soundtrack featuring Mountain with "Mississippi Queen" and a couple of great AC/DC songs that are played during one of a multitude of chase scenes.

Overall it was enjoyable, though getting the unrated version is a waste of time. No movie to me personally, especially this particular one, ever benefits from foul language. However, what was I to expect with Knoxville and Scott cast as the Dukes?

I was a bit skeptical as to whether this would be a decent remake of the old series, but Jessica Simpson did a great job. The only one I think was miscast was Boss Hawg (or however his name is spelled, LOL). Burt Reynolds looks old and skinny and over plays his role. There are plenty of actors who could have held that role in a believable manner. But that was a small downside to an otherwise enjoyable and well done movie.

Hey Jessica heres a paper bag, go try to act your way out out it.. Oh sure you take away the sexy outfits, and the half naked Jessia ( daisey) and you al most have a movie, I said Almost , of coarse you would haveto bring in the 2 original guys and the original Daisey and the original bossHOG to get it right , but if your willing to do all that, you might just have yourself a movie. this was the worst movie i have seen all year so far. this ranks up there with Dumb and dummmberer and Cable guy. totally stupid movie .

The launguage.. Wow uncle jessie did not smoke pot..This movie is not a good movie.It made the dukes a bad bad thing. They should not of made this movie,,. needed to keep the money on this o ne

I liked the movie because I used to watch the show when I was younger. It is a modern version of the old show. The characters are pretty true to the original and it was a good movie overall. All actors played parts good and would recommend this movie to any one who had seen the series in its original days.

This is a Great movie! I never bought it but I did go and see it in the theater, if you can live with a skinny Boss Hogg and Jessica Simpson's horrible southern accent this movie is a must buy! Just don't think that it's going to be like the original. This is a good action-packed movie with high-speed chases and awesome music.

I grew up watching the Dukes. The show was awesome. My only suggestion if you have not yet seen this movie....Watch it as if it had a different name. This movie was a fun redneck fest and had nothing to do with the Dukes that we know. The movie was entertaining, but what they changed Jessie Duke into was sad. Jessie never would have ever said the word "pus#Y" for example.

TOO MUCH FOUL LANGUAGE! NO one in the South would have used so much cussin' and swearin'! The two topless scenes were BAD,BAD,BAD! My son wanted to watch the show and how do I tell him that it's NOT APPROPRIATE for him to see OR hear the filth they added into the show just to sell it!Wouldn't have bought it if I had known there was so much trash in it!Totally missed the mark.Story line stilted,just didn't measure up to the old series.Lots of action and the music tracks were fantastic,BUT the actors were WAY OFF! Willie Nelson just didn't act the part smoothly enough of Uncle Jessie.The Duke Boys were way off also!Just a brunette and a blonde guy trying hard to make the part happen but were so far away from originals!Jessica Simpson,while a very sexy woman,just didn't measure up to the class that the OTHER Daisy Duke had.Being Blonde stole it all away for me as Daisy Duke was one of the first few BRUNETTES to make a huge hit with the men!Don't take that away from her!If they plan to make another then get better actors/actresses that look AND act the part.

This is not the Dukes of old. But it was not meant to be. The movie is ok - and Jessica looks as gorgeious as always. One positive thing I can say is I'm glad I paid the bargain matinee price.

I don't think any of the actors did any research at all. As someone who grew up watching Dukes of Hazzard I could have done a better job. Watch the real show and see what acting used to look like. It seems these "stars" never got too far away from the lunch table. It was supposed to be funny and never was. It was also vulgar, which the original shows never were. If you're thinking you want it just to see Jessica Simpson parade around in Daisy Duke shorts, forget it. The shorts on Jessica were long. Also, and finally, the politically correct humor ruins parts of the movie with a sense typical liberal American elitism.

I liked this movie for a remake it stayed close to the original show. Some remakes really are stupid, this one stayed within the bounds of the original. I like the show back then, I liked the actors they picked for this movie, found it good funny movie. But to each their own.. I am glad to add it to my collection.

I was very dissapointed in all the cursing. The vulgarity of the movie was not neccessary. The characters weren't at all like the TV show and I wish I'd never seen it.
I did like the car jumps...you can get that from the original though.

Let's just keep it real if your a dukes of hazzard fan you will like the movie, no it's not as good as the original series but it's a nice clean movie for the family.

GOOD ADDITION TO THE DUKES FAMILY. SOMETIMES IT IS A CHEESY RIP OFF TRYING TO MAKE A BUCK,THE PRODUCERS PUT A LOT INTO SIMPSON,KNOXVILLE,NELSON,AND SCOTT. THE FINAL PRODUCT IS A BETTER THAN AVERAGE MOVIE. I WOULD GIVE IT AN 8 OUT OF 10. WORTH WATCHING BUT NOT SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY ON. WOULD BE A GREAT RENTAL.

I liked the update to the characters. Jessica Simpson was hot, but it would have kinda been nice to see someone with dark hair like Catherine Bach. I liked the casting of Bo and Luke. I wasn't to crazy about them when I first found out but I did end up liking them in the movie. The Sherrif Roscoe character was miscast. And where is Cooter? If you can get it for a decent price, get it.

Grew up with the original show and fell in love with the car. Will have one one day! Great movie, really enjoyed it!!

I bought this movie b/c I'm from the South and grew up in the days that the tv series was prime time. It was pretty funny. It would have been better if they would have laid low on the "breast" scenes. After a while it's just not funny with them "accidently" walking into dorm room to dorm room of women in their underwear. That part was overdone and stupid otherwise I would have said Excellent. Jessica made a better Daisy than the original. She steels the show.

This Movies Is awesome, I think It keeps in tune with the original Series, and Jessica simpson sure does make a drop dead georgous daisy duke. If you are thinkin of Buyin this movie you won't be Disappointed. I give it Five Stars. Great movie especially if you are a fan of the General Lee.

While there was indeed a lot of action in the movie, it just doesn't live up to the Dukes of Hazzard legend. The humor was extremely dry and just didn't even tickle one of my funny bones. The actors don't even resemble the original actors even with their personalities. The action and stunts are good, but that's about all the movie has got going for it. Somewhat of a disappointment for me.

Poor update of the beloved TV series, with Knoxville, Scott and Simpson as pale imitations of the wonderful TV characters.

Definitely does not live up to the name DUKES OF HAZZARD.. I Think I fell asleep seening this movie.. Only good part is seeing Jessica Simpson.. Thats the only +.

This does not live up to the series. This is not like the characters at all. If you could forget what the characters were supposed to be, then the movie was slightly amusing. Definitely does not live up to the name.
