Dude, Where's My Country? by Michael Moore (2003, Hardcover)

This is a VERY interesting read. It predicts many of the economic and political realities which beset our country in 2008, even though it was written in 2003.

While many people violently disagree with the ways and means of Moore's research, as well as his very vocal political point of view...well, this IS America and we do have freedom of speech...And Mr. Moore makes full use of that freedom...to the delight of some, the disgust of others and to the head-shaking of The Many.

All in all, the reader will NOT find it boring!!

The book does point-out the basic freedoms which "average Americans" have lost due to the Patriot Act which was passed by a heavily Republican Congress for reasons of National Security after 9/11...The book also points-out the many basic National security measures which have NOT been implemented to protect our borders from foreign and possibly threatening intrusions.

As I said, it's an interesting read.

Moore's writing style is outrageous and entertaining, and the reader gets the feeling that Moore is a sincere patriot...at odds with other sincere patriots who have been wielding a lot of power since 9/11...One of it's most interesting features is an actual copy of a US Tax Form especially made for Millionaires to help them with filling-out their returns, including explaining their special benefits!

This page alone made my stomach curdle. Apparently, the Super Rich citizens in the US DO get special and preferential tax treatment, which was a shocker for me. Mr. Moore, himself being in that class of the Super Rich, was kind enough to share this real IRS document with the rest of us who do not fall into that category. Kinda made me a little nauseous to see that Tax form "for real."

Mr. Moore tells his readers that he will donate all of his royalties from this book to those who work to elect anyone BUT George Bush in 2004. I suppose he must have done that, but Mr. Bush's politics and fan base were both too strong to be dissuaded by Moore's generosity.

No matter what one thinks of Michael Moore as a person, he does seem to love his country and wishes to help to preserve the basic freedoms which The Founding Fathers explicitly delineated in its very clearly written Constitution. (Freedom of Speech; Freedom of Religion; even ways in which prolonged wars can be waged, seeming paramount here...)

Voices of dissent always need to be heard and respected, I believe. That reflects our true and basic Freedom of Speech granted to all US citizens by the US Constitution.

A comparison with Moore's book with what has come to pass five years after it was written might make for an interesting term paper for an introductory course in Political Science......Or...Not...YOU decide!

Just a great book - every patriotic American should read it! Michael Moore is once again entertaining yet alarming. His views are not as obviously one sided as you may think bringing up political inproprieties on both sides, although the Republicans obviously have more (with more serious consequences) which he is more than happy to point out. If you are a free thinking, open minded, liberal who is disgusted with the current administration, you will love this book!

I wish more Americans would pick this book up and read it! Michael Moore gets to the heart of the problem with this country today (and yesterday) and doesn't pull punches at all.

Unbelievable. Michael Moore is the first extremist who is actually really funny. I have read all of his books and seen all of his movies and this one tops the list. Not only does he accurately predict the political future, but if politicians would actually read his work instead of running away in fear then they might have a fresh take on the issues that affect us today. I think maybe Obama took a peek at his work and I just want to add GOOD LUCK IN YOUR UPCOMING TERM!!!
