Driving Lessons (DVD, 2007)

At age 17 (and a half), shy and gawky Ben (Rupert Grint) is under the thumb of his controlling and deeply religious mother (Laura Linney). Following the lead of his browbeaten and spineless father, the vicar (Nicholas Farrell), Ben constantly yields to his mother's demands without question, even when he wishes he could begin to take charge of his own life.

When he takes a job as a companion/assistant to an eccentric, aged and no-longer-popular actress, "Dame" Evie Walton (Julie Walters), his horizons are opened as they partake of various adventures together. Together they play lines from Shakespeare back and forth to each other while laying on a blanket in Evie's garden.

They visit an outdoor outfitter's shop and have fun trying out the equipment. Then she tricks him into a camping trip despite his mother's protests and his own apprehension. She further cons him into escorting her to Edinborough where she's been asked to read before an audience. She's terrified but has a need to do it -- but only if Ben will support her.

In Evie and her fears, Ben realizes his own fears and blossoms into a young man with opinions he's not afraid to state and the power to stand up to his mother.

While it's a tale that's been told before, ''Driving Lessons'' was nonetheless enjoyable and certainly enhanced by musical themes throughout the film. I was particularly pleased to be introduced to the charming music of the group Salsa Celtica (''The best Cuban band . . . in Scotland!''.

For those unfamiliar with young Rupert Grint, he made his film claim as Harry Potter's best friend. And in this film, his father is played by Nicholas Ferrell who I'd not seen since his starring role in ''Chariots of Fire'' many years ago. It was a pleasure to see him again.

This movie was GREAT! I LOVE the humor! Rupert's character is very likable and he plays the awkward teen very well.

I loved the price of the movie, which was 8 dollars, and that I got free shipping. I also really enjoyed the movie, however it came in only a slip for the DVD and not a hard case. This was annoying when trying to transport it. Also, there were Japanese subtitles that I had to figure out how to get rid of that was not mentioned when I bought the product. But overall it was a good purchase.

I love this movie because its so funny. I love British comedy. i decided to buy it on ebay because it was inexpensive and I couldn't find it anywhere else.

This movie was very interesting with an amazing cast. If you enjoy, mostly UK actors this is a nice way to see some of them show you there span as actors.

I first watched this movie because I wanted to see how Rupert Grint would act outside of the Harry Potter movies. Well, he isn't Ron Weasley anymore. He takes on a complex role of son of a distant father and an overbearing, cheating mother. The mother uses her son to cover her affair by pretending to give him driving lessons. She encourages him to get a summer job to pay for her projects. He meets an elderly eccentric actress that shows him the wild possiblities of life. They have many adventures that eventually give him to confront his mother and become the man he is meant to be. I highly recommend this movie.

The movie came quickly and was packaged well. The movie itself was in good condition, the cover was in its entirety. overall, i was very happy with the entire purchase

I initially selected the movie due to the actors from Harry Potter films. Great film about the difficulty of growing up and making family happy and yourself.
