Album Notes
Superchunk: Mac McCaughan, Jim Wilbur (vocals, guitar); Laura Ballance (bass); Jon Wurster (drums).
Whether working with his main musical accomplices in Superchunk, or recording on his own in his side project, Portastatic, Mac McCaughan has conjured up hooks, moods and musical landscapes that have helped place him among the better songwriters of the last twenty years. Yet for the most part, McCaughan has tended to bury his best songs deep beneath a layer of whiplash punk guitar and blurry vocal production that has concealed how pretty his songs really are.
On the DRIVEWAY TO DRIVEWAY EP however, McCaughan lets down his guard, straps on his trusty acoustic, and shows what his songs are like below the layers of guitar. "Driveway to Driveway," from the FOOLISH album, turns out to be a revelation in its original form and is devastatingly melancholy. "Sick to Move" is less effective, but "Seed Toss" (originally from NO POCKY FOR KITTY), done here acoustically, proves conclusively that above all, Superchunk is not about speed, but songwriting.

Editorial Reviews
...The blueprint for Superchunk's success lies here: simple songs, linear music ideas, high energy, and real heart from the real thing.
