Drillbit Taylor - A good movie, but have been better

Owen Wilson stars in this off beat comedy about a homeless man who is hired to defend three freshmen high school students.

The movie starts off with the three students being bullied by two seniors, they get fed up with the bullying and decide to hire Drillbit Taylor (Owen Wilson) to defend them. From there they movie is a series of gags and one liners that leads to the final battle between the kids, Wilson and the bullies.

Unfortunately the movie was not as funny as I expected and the director missed a lot of opportunities to make me laugh.

Wilson is a fine actor and I believe he should have skipped this movie.

I rate this move a 3 out of 5 only because it did entertain me, however I would not recommend anyone buy the movie, rent it so you can take it back when your done with it.

I hope this review helps you.

  Mediocre At Best
Review created: 06/19/08

I usually enjoy films with Owen Wilson, but I was quite disappointed with Drillbit Taylor. Most of the characters here are annoying and unfunny and the story is rather dull. Owen Wilson's character was a pushover who really didn't stand up for himself and his character was very annoying at times as well as some of the other characters. This isn't to say the movie is terrible, it does has it's redeeming points. Josh Peck did a great job and I have always been a fan of him. It was quite interesting to see him take the role of a school bully and he was very believable and is just a really good actor.

The movie does have it's comical moments here and there, but really not enough to leave you satisfied. The dialog isn't bad, but some of Owen Wilson's one liners seem more out of place rather then funny. So this isn't necessarily a bad movie, but it could have been better. In the end this movie just seems like wasted potential and is mediocre at best. It might be a better idea to wait until it comes on TV or maybe barrow it, but I don't think it is really worth to pay to see it unless your a fan of Owen Wilson's other films.
