Album Notes 1984's HUMAN'S LIB was an adorable, if somewhat twee, feel-good electro-pop album. Wisely, Howard Jones didn't attempt to replicate it musically, instead filling 1985's DREAM INTO ACTION with rich arrangements that give his sequencers and keyboards equal time with horns, guitars, and live drummers. The result is a state-of-the-art mid-'80s commercial pop album, and it was an even bigger hit than Jones' debut. The more subtle arrangements don't sound dated, merely of their time, and Jones' uncanny skill as a pop songwriter means that nearly half of this album's songs are gems. "Things Can Only Get Better" and the unashamedly bouncy "Life In One Day" are joyous and optimistic, while the more reflective "No One Is To Blame" and the almost slinky "Like To Get To Know You Well" keep the album from sounding like a Dale Carnegie lecture set to music. DREAM INTO ACTION is a guilty pop pleasure that shouldn't be.
