I swore off of this "movie" after the "rough trailer" was released. Then all these folks kept telling me it'd be so much better than that, would look like the cover art and the story was "so true to the book".

I bought it, and found that the "rough trailer" even on YouTube looked pretty much the same as this crap-filled crap-coated crap with a crap center that they put out as a final product.

Verminaard wearing a dishtowel over his face?

Takhisis is all fuzzy in most of her scenes.

People missing hands and feet.

Extra hands and feet.

No dead lizard for healing.

Giant Square Chins For All (tm).

No death by acid - wasn't this the reason for the PG-13 stated by the authors?

Big Wiggly Bewbs on Innocent Young Barmaids (tm) - seriously, she's supposed to have a rack and all, but holy stripclub freakshow, Batman!

Staff light punches people in the chest?

It seemed to be an average of about four frames per second. I even paused and frame-by-framed it, there are places where I had to advance 10 or 12 frames to see anything change.

The Forestmaster looked more like the Lawnornament.

Sizechanges all around. Grow a foot, shrink a foot. Grow a foot, shrink a foot.

No Horns for Sturm, no Helm for Caramon, but Verminaard got a dishtowel?

Elistan macking on Laurana? Wasn't there a pretty important theme later on, of Tanis's jealousy and how it was unfounded, that Laurana was mad he'd infer that Elistan was anything more than her wise mentor? Gonna be kind of hard for her to get mad now, having been macked on. Hope I'm using that term right - isn't that how you kids say it?

Bewbs here, Bewbs there, Bewbs everywhere! Tika's Bewbs are so freakishly huge they deserved a second entry. Though, I do wish my wife (or any woman anywhere, for that matter) had the ability to make their bewbs dance around and point like that.

I'm selling mine on eBay already. I hope to soon get it out of my house. I'd throw it away but our trash company won't take sewage.

For those of you who aren't aware, this movie is based on a novel that many would consider a staple of its genre. Characters are torn between worlds and love, searching for lost legacies, driven by friendship, or quests for power. They must wrestle with their flaws while seeking a way to save everyone from the coming evil.
When the movie was first coming out, I was excited. It was an awesome book and they were coming in with some great voice talents. In watching the movie, though, I guess they had to have good names. The animation was that of the '80s. Even when the used computerized images, it was shoddy. I expected more and better.
The story itself remained true to the original for the most part. However, it was only the bare bones. All the meat of the characters' internal thoughts and struggles were missing, perhaps eaten by an Abyssal Editorial Staff (or perhaps not). What I saw were the bones of a magnificient beast, though I would have never known it if I hadn't had the 'before' picture.
Anyway, if you can't read the book, the movie will give you a basic idea of what happened. If you want more that just the basics, you'll have to look elsewhere.

I love the concept, the books, the world and been waiting for years for some kind of movie. Good script and kind of usual saturday cartoon animation, but that's ok. I did find the soundtrack to be a bit overwhelming over the dialogue. I love to listen to soundtracks, but this could have used less. The action and the characters speak for themselves, when you can hear them.

I loved this because it gave names to faces, locations, pronunciations that I have been saying wrong for 20 years or more are now cleared up for me! I felt as if I was walking with Raistlin and the others on their greatest journey.

What I didn't like was that they chopped WAY too much of the story out and the whole CGI/cartoon thing was more annoying then enjoying. It should have been ALL CGI and more in keeps with the story. This is what MILLIONS of people wante to see and read about. But this is a first so I understand. I know that the second one WILL be better!!!!!!!

Take care!

Dragonlance-Animated is absolutely the best idea!!!

I give the review a 5 out of 5 just for the idea of bringing the book to life and also keeping to the book almost word for word! Character descriptions were dead on! I think its good they used animation instead of real life so the could stick to the book like they did! To be truthful to readers though, I do have to say that the animation couldve been a tiny bit better and the battle scenes too, but I didnt complain once because I was so overwhelmed at the whole idea of it all! Really looking forward to all the season books and hopefully others such as the Time of the twins and so forth! Hope to see more of Raistilin's magic, and hopefully Lord Soth's story! Maybe even Huma's sometimes! Thanks to all who had a part in making this possible and ofcourse Margarette and Tracy for there devotion to making there readers ever happy!

Dragonlance - Dragons Of The Autumn Twilight

I enjoyed the movie. Dragons Of The Autumn Twilight the Movie is a good beginning, though storyline seem rushed at times and things were glossed over but it remained true to the book. The animation could have be better, CGI at times did not mix well with the drawn characters. For the first step, it is a good one and I can not wait for the sequential.

My two-year old brother loves the Dragonlance movie and I thought it was great. It followed the majority of the book. But there were some minor details that were wrong. Little stuff like Tanis's headband and when they show Laurana at Pax Tharkas. Overall The movie was great. If you liked the Dragonlance Chornicles, you should check this movie out.

A good watch if you like the books...

I am a huge fan of the original Dragonlance book series, so I was looking forward to this video.

The story follows the first book in the series, Dragons of Autumn Twilight. Outside of a few minor changes, it does a good job of following the story. The production quality, however, leaves a little to be desired. A strange mix of traditional and computer generated animation distracted from the flow of the story, and there are animation inconsistancies throughout.

Overall, the voice acting was great, with a fantastic job by Keifer Sutherland as Rastlin.

Check this out if you're a fan of the books.

Followed the book pretty good but could have used more blood. Young children can enjoy this movie along with adults. Good fantasy cartoon.

Not the best anime I've seen, but not the worst either. Obviously no movie can compare with the book, but I think they did an ok job. My young son loved it.

It was very true to the original storyline and fast moving. I was impressed with the fight scenes and character flavor. Overall this is a great show for fans of Dragonlance and Dungeons and Dragons in general. They didn't cartoon it up too much and kept with the original character personalities for the most part.

All in all, it was a great movie translation and I hope they continue with more from the Dragonlance series.

Review created: 04/04/08

where, I read the original book titled dragonlance: dragons of autumn twilight and loved it as a child, the video was something that I had longed to see on video. The voice acting was solid, led by keifer sutherland and also starring lucy lawless, the acting of sutherland as raistlin was spot on. The best thing about the video was that the writers remained true to the story which was most imperative, however the animation was not the best. The korean's really did a number on this one. For anyone who had read the book i would recommend the video for seeing it all on the screen.

Dragonlance -- at least they made it!
Review created: 03/05/08

It's pretty simple: I bought this movie because as a die-hard Dragonlance fan I HAD to have it. When I heard it would be animated I was disappointed, but I guess no one has yet been willing to put up the money to do a live-action production.

Let's get right into the movie:

the good: With all my fears about this movie it was actually better than I feared it might be. This is certainly a MUST see and a MUST own for any Dragonlance fan or collector.

the bad: There are some spoilers if you have only ready Dragons of Autumn Twilight, so I would read Winter and Spring first.

the ugly: The choice to use 3d animation for some characters was a mistake, it just looked bad. All 2d would have obviously looked better, I don't know what they were thinking.

So my recommendation? Well, you probably aren't reading this review unless you're already a fan of Dragonlance and in that case you should see the movie. If you've never read Dragons of Autumn Twilight then not doing so BEFORE you see it would be doing yourself a great injustice. I'm sure you can find a copy somewhere around...

i'm a big fan of dragonlance so , let me first say , this is a cartoon , and as a cartoon it was good. it stuck to the books and every one was recognizable. its there first attempt at this and hopefully not there last. only thing better than the books and dvd is if they decide to make a real movie. in the mean time, this will have to do. i'd even let my grandkids watch it.
