I really like this game on the WII console.

I really like this game, it is tons of fun they really did a good job mixing a classic game series with the new WII console. The WII remote worked really well for a sword/shield in this game play. My only concern was the lack of true FREEDOM to explore the vast country side that the map shows. There is a set path for you to walk and the monsters always come out at the same spots each and every time you go through the same quest over(hey I am a power leveling player lol). So once you go through a quest the only new surprises are what types of drops you get. But all in all I still have to give this game a 5 out of 5 because I truely do like playing this game and can see me playing it over and over again.

This game really takes advantage of the "Wiimote", everything in this game is done with one hand. That makes it the PERFECT game to play while having some lunch!
The Graphics aren't as great as say, Super Mario Galaxy. They're good for what they are, and stand up on their own legs. If you remember the fun of those old "Dragon Warrior" games from the NES days, this is a very successful attempt to recapture that feeling, and at the same time reinvent it! The sound team did a fantastic job too, they threw in quite a few nods to the originals, including that spell casting sound. The voice acting is also pretty good, which is very rare in itself!
Long story short, don't listen to the "Professional" review sites, this is a solid title!
I definitely recommend it!

Dragon Quest Swords utilizes a Battle System reminiscent to those of First Person Rail Shooter games such as House of the Dead. However, instead of using a handgun, Dragon Quest Swords uses the functions of the Wii Remote as a Sword and a Shield. The direction of a sword slash is dependent on the direction the player sways the Wii Remote. In order to defend from incoming attacks, the player also has to use the Wii Remote while holding the A button while blocking the exact location of an enemy's attack on the screen. A special attack can be unleashed once the special attack gauge is filled. The gauge is filled when you hit enemies with your sword. Only your allies (Dean, Baud or Setia) can cast magic. The player can set how frequently they use magic or they can use magic manually by bringing up the menu. The player may access the menu screen while in battle by pressing the minus button.

Thought I would get something for me for a change. I love this game. Wish I could find a book for it though. Some of the areas are a little hard to remember. A book would open a whole new side of the game.

  Masked Queen
Review created: 08/06/09

This is an interesting game to play. Sword slashing is done with the Wii Remote. A little different when you are used to pushing a button for an action. Once you get adjusted to it, play is actually pretty easy and a lot more fun. I do recommend doing the training at the start of the game.
I have played others in this series and I prefer some of the more standard RPG look. A FPS look is not what I am interested in. Taking a party and developing it is more fun in my opinion. Having just one character to utilize and control makes for limitations. The secondary party member is not a lot of help.
The linear story is slow. You have to go specific directions to progress. If you want to get some of the better items you have to farm for gold/tokens. That takes extra time.
Overall game play is enjoyable. Motion Control makes it more realistic/entertaining. I have found that I prefer to stand to better control my movements. It causes things just to work better.

  VERY short game

I'm a big fan of Dragon quest and this one give me a mixed feeling. On the plus side, it has interesting fighting mixing arcade feeling with RPG. On the other hand, it's extremely short and don't have a lot of things you expect from RPG. There is only one city! Can you believe that? Even though I carefully browse through most area, I finish this game in 8 hours. There are some carrots to play for the second time but it's not really worth it. Overall, it's a huge disappointment. It's very fun for the first couple of hours but it gets old real fast. This game may be suitable for non RPG gamer however.

If you are a fan of the saga you can't miss this game, maybe the game play is not as good as zelda's for example but you can get used to it pretty soon...soundtrack is pretty familiar as other titles of DQ so you'll be remembering the tunes.

I bought it for my kids to use in their Nintendo Wii. I wanted a game that they can be active just like the Wii Sport and Play. With this game they are able to use the control as a sword that they can safely wield around.

The kids love it. The game is aimed towards young kids so it is perfect. The only thing I don't like is the long narrative and the kids complain that it takes a while to get to battle. I guess it's because it's an adventure game, they need clues and pick up stuff while they go around their path.

  Dragon Quest, overall fun!
Review created: 02/14/09

Dragon Quest Swords is a fun,but some times repetitive first person hack/slash with rpg elements. The game has you playing in first person, and you take on the role of a young inexperienced hero's son. The game sets you out to save the world from impending darkness, with the help of three friends(with only 1 in your party at a time) who support you via spells. The core game play revolves around using the wii mote to hack, slash, and stab your enemies, which in itself grows tiresome however the master slash moves spice up the game play nicely(allowing you to preform powerful moves by following commands on the screen.)The main story quest is rather short, but collecting items and gold for the sake of creating stronger weapons, and buying better armor, as well as some fun side quests make for an overall great experience!

Fun game though the controls may be tricky.
Review created: 02/10/09

This was a fun game to play, using the Wiimote to slash your sword around. The best part is the replay value, of going to different forks in the dungeons if you missed (it's practically on a rail in 1st person, like if you played Virtua Cop or House of the Dead where you can't really backtrack on a run) and they even have rewards so you can temper your swords or get a better ranking the next time you enter a dungeon.

The problem I had with the game is that it takes a while to get used to the controls. Your specials, called Master Strokes can sometimes be difficult to use even when you feel you are doing the move correctly. The same is true sometimes with your sword slashes, like you'll get a slash when you motion for a thrust. Fortunately, you won't miss too often, even if this is a problem.

I also felt the game had recycled a lot of things; do not expect new enemies (a lot of palette swaps) or characters for quite a while if you played Dragon Quest 8. It is also sluggish to turn in towns. Lastly, the story is mediocre; you basically fight some cliche villain who revives himself and the dialogue is not compelling though at least the characters are tolerable.

Fortunately, overkilling enemies (attacking them a bunch of times even while they have no health left) and getting your rankings makes the game more fun to play though it has its problems.

Dragon Quest Sword, A short but entertaining game
Review created: 10/13/08
by:

Great game, although this isn't your standard RPG with long last playtime. But DQ Sword gives you something that other RPG Game don't have, the sensation of actualy being the Hero, although that makes the game more like an Action Game rather than an RPG.

Graphic : 7.8
DQ Sword has decent and well executed graphic , with lots of familliar NPC's,and monster's for the DQ Series fans.

Sound : 7.8
There are A lot of familliar sound effects from the DQ Series in this game, and DQ Sword gives you good musics to support the battle and adventuruous feeling of the game.

Story : 6.5 (spoiler allert)
The story is all to short.....You must find the Queen, fix the mask, and fight the boss....the end. Although you could try to defeat the extra bosses after you finished the game.

Gameplay : 8.5
Great gameplay! This is the best part of this game. Feel the sensation of real intense battle against dominions of evil in your own living room. The boss battle is the most fun part of this game. It was well made by Square Enix, so you will find the boss battle really fun and entertaining.

Replay Value : 8.0
You can always replay the level you've finished to gain more EXP and item's. And with the great gameplay, you'll find yourself palying this game over and
over again.

This is the kind of game I'm expecting from Nintendo Wii,with real experience and a lot action involving the player themself. With DQ Swords, you can experience the Intense battle of a Hero in an adventure against the minions of Evil. But forget it if your'e looking for 50 hours and complex story RPG.

A fellow fans review of this spectacular game

Dragon Quest Swords has been one of the best games I have ever played, and in my opinion, it greatly rivals the total awe that was DQ8 on the PS2! With great gameplay, perfect control and graphics, and not a single glitch or error in the game within site, I think this is the best Dragon Quest game ever! With slightly over 6 to 7 hours worth of gameplay, every second you play this splendor of a game, you will be completely captivated by it's total and unbelievable storyline, characters, and much, much more! I know I sure was, and still am!
