I had been searching all over creation for this older Disney movie for about 5 years. I had seen the movie while still in elementary school (hundreds of years ago!) and had never forgotten the story and the title song. I was soo pleased to at last find it, in good shape and for sale!!! O'happy Day!! The story is excellent (a bit scary) and very entertaining!! I would recommend this title to everyone. It is Great Family entertainment!!

Patrick McGoohan in a Disney Classic

This movie is well worth your time (and your investment) just to see how Patrick McGoohan handles the complex role of the Vicar of Dymchurch by day and the Scarecrow of Romney Marsh by night. I cannot imagine another actor in the role. A great supporting cast and surprising twists of plot make "Dr. Syn, Alias the Scarecrow of Romney Marsh" my favorite of all Disney films.

Robin Hood with a Scarecrow Mask~Fun Disney Classic~
Review created: 11/01/08(updated 11/21/08)

PLOT: a man wearing a Scarecrow mask and his henchman smuggle contraband under the eyes of the British Military to sell and give the money to the over taxed Brits~ TO MAKE IT MORE FUN THE SCARECROW IS REALLY THE LOCAL VICAR DR. SYN~~ DISNEY CLASSIC AND MUCH BETTER THAN IT SOUNDs~

Patrick McGoohen plays the Vicar of Dymchurch who is secretly the Scarecrow a man dressed in a scarecrow garb to hide who he is~ and his agenda: smuggling under the very eyes of the military so he can sell the contraband and help the poor of his perish eat, pay taxes and live~ fun thrills and excellent theme song~ this is a hard to find Disney GEM~ VERY OUT OF PRINT but worth the watch if you can find it~ The horse chases sequences are wonderful and the plot weaves a blend of mild scare and fun to see how the very determined Military tries to catch him and how cleverly he eludes them~
done in three parts so each part has a sepearate story but weaved in one theme~ this was a SUNDAY NIGHT DISNEY CLASSIC and I watched as child and loved it~ DISNEY IS FINALLY RELEASING THIS ON DVD NOVEMBER 2008~ ABOUT TIME~~ aka as the Scarecrow of Romney Marsh~ I give it a solid 8 out of 10 for Disney style and adventure.

IF YOU FOUND THIS REVIEW HELPFUL PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE~

  Dr. Syn, Alias the Scarecrow

This is an older movie for TV produced by Walt Disney. I think that the series was called the Legend series. It also included The Swamp Fox (Gen. Francis Marion in the Revolutionary War. This was the legend for the movie The Patriot). Dr. Syn was a decon in England during the American Revolution who moonlighted as a Robin Hood of sorts, helping the locals with their taxes and food during the oppressive rule of King George of England. Very good movie that was bought because I am finding old movies that I loved in my youth still look good. Try it, you'll like it.

A sad, sad tale -- with ultimately a happy ending

I suppose my point of view is pretty sour as I've NOT RECIEVED THE PURCHASE. I bought the tape - something that sparks great childhood memories - in early Dec 06 - the DAY after I sent my payment, I received ebay notification that the deal may be going bad and to start reimbursement procedures. Having faith in humanity, I tried several times to contact the seller, but never heard back from her. After a few weeks, I started the complaint process via paypal. I'm still waiting to see how that pans out. This has been painful. I've been trying to secure "Dr Syn, Alias the Scarecrow" for a long time now. It was my all time favorite segment on the old "Wonderful World of Color" series (which, of course, I has to watch in black and white) in the early/mid 60's. To get it would be great. This is the FIRST time in 80 transactions that I've ever been outright STIFFED, and I'm not a happy camper. I wish there was some way to prevent it, but I know that's not realistic. Hopefully ebay and paypal will help me get my money back, but at this point, I'd still be happy just to have the tape show up in my mailbox. Okay, I'm venting - but you asked!!

NEW DEVELOPMENT - I finally got a copy of this story - through another seller! Story is just as good as I remembered as a kid, even though some of the acting seems a bit stiff by today's standards (not Dr Syn, however).

Disney Classic from the Mickey Mouse Club

When I first saw this I was quite young and just recenetly received one of those emails "Do You Remember" and I started thinking about those serial Movies on Disney, Spin & Marty, The Hardy Boys, Texas John Slaughhter and others but I remember one in particular because it was follore and possibly history and thats the story of Dr. Syn alias the Scarecrow. It was basically a Robin Hood type of movie with that Great Star Patrick Mc Goohan. I researched it and found it on Ebay and regardless whether it was a DVD or a VHS. It was one of my childhood Favorites. I also bought the Hardy Boys and showed my daughter who is 17 and She really enjoyed it to actually watchthem over & over.

As a child it was one of my favorite Disney movies. You can 't find it in stores or through the Disney web sight so I thought I would try e-bay. It was the first time I ordered. The movie was a copy and a bad one at that down to the box it was in. Needless to say for $50.00 I was extremely disappointed.
