Made in 1964 at the height of the cold war, with Peter Sellers, George C. Scott, Tim Pickens, this movie dramatizes how wrong-headed an arms race can be. Amazingly relevant, even in 2006. BTW, Kubrick, the director also made 2001: A Space Odyssey in 1968, 4 years later. The reviewer who compared the two movies sadly has no idea what he is talking about.

this is what I would catogorize as a black comedy or art film. and Dr. Strangelove has only about 10 minutes of the entire movie just to let you know. it reminds you of 2001 a space oddysey, only worse. it was the most boring and non funny, no meaning movie I have ever seen, and I would never watch it again unless I was paid to.

This is a great "Spoof" movie for anyone who grew up with the fear of the Russian Nuclear Threat. Written around an awesome cast with Slim Pickens, Peter Sellers and George C. Scott to name a few. The movie revolves around the critical events that may occur when one "insane" General decides it's time to eliminate that threat. Done in black and white, this seemingly low budget film is carried by the story line and the cast. This is a generational movie that wouldn't be enjoyed, or understood, by the youth of today. A great movie to add to the collection of the "graying" crowd.

The 1964 black comedic masterpiece from director Stanley Kubrick centers around the dropping of "THE BOMB". A surprise nuclear airstrike on the USSR is ordered by the crazy General (Sterling Hayden) which leads his aide (Peter Sellers) to frantically attempt to locate the recall code to stop the bombing.
With an all-star cast of outstanding performances Peter Sellers, George C. Scott, Slim Pickens, James Earl Jones, Sterling Hayden and Keenan Wynn you can't possibly go wrong. Peter Sellers is fabulous in three different roles... Captain Mandrake (General's Aide), the President of the United States, and the President's advisor, ex-Nazi scientist, Dr. Strangelove. Nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director (Kubrick), Best Actor (Sellers) & Best Screenplay Adaptation this is without a doubt, one of the top ten greatest cult classics of all time.

I brought this dvd because as a kid in the 60's I remember seeing it on tv and loved it. Even now though the effects are of course outdated, it's still a great movie and people can see thru the satire somewhat how the world was during the cold war. I highly recomend this movie to anyone who likes dark humor and good comedy. Oh one more thing it's in black & white and I hope it's never colorized, I think it would take away something from the movie.

Probably one of the best movies from it's time. Spills over hidden meanings and symbolism. This cinema classic marks the end of the 50's culture and cinema achievment and bridges the entering 60's ideals.

Outstanding cast of characters molded together to develop a frightening subject into a comedic film. Amazing impact some 40 years later.

The comedic genius of this film oft goes unrecognized and unappreciated by the majority of movie viewers, but it is a real treasure to those who appreciate its beautifully subtle and intellectually stimulating humor. An absolute masterpiece.

A tongue in cheek take on the cold war. Adapted from a book, Kubrick strayed away from the serious overtones of the book and made a classic comedy that is alot like a naked gun movie, only not as ridiculios and stupid. This movie stays intelligent and is a classic.

This film is simply the best anti-war film of all time - exceeding failsafe, on the beach and others in the genre. The tongue in cheek approach to Armageddon achieves an insight that serious films cannot match. The cast are spectacular, with George C Scott outstanding as the General Curtis LeMay look-alike, Slim Pikens as the bomber pilot and Peter Sellers in three roles. The monologue phone call to Dimitri is but the best line in the film has to be the primacy of private property over the future of the world implied by the "Coca Cola" quip. Brilliant!

Good day,

I was looking for this classic movie for a while in the stores.
Since I was not able to find it I tried in eBay – it was there – obviously!
Once the payment was made, the shipping was fast and it was a very easy and smooth purchase.

The only thing I would have changed in this purchase is the price – if I would have gotten it cheaper it would have been much better – obviously.

Thank you!!
